What a PITA
« on: June 23, 2018, 01:40:08 PM »

Started off early to beat the heat, 0900, to do some lite mechanic work. Oil changes for the SEEG, Hyundai, and Suburban, and a driving light bulb change on the Burb. All 3 oil changes completed in 1.5hrs. Now, the light bulb has been a different story. You have to take half the bumper off just to get the light assembly out. Then, it's so tight you really almost need to take the whole thing off. Got it all put back together, the assembly is loose. Must have missed a guide tab. OMG!!! Did they design it to up the mechanic hours in the shop? What a PITA!!
That is all. Rant over. Just needed to whine a bit. At least the SEEG has new blood corsing through her heart. Guess I will have to head out for some 2 wheel therapy when it cools down tonight.

What year is your Suburban? And do you mean daytime running lights (DLRs) when you say driving lights or the fog lights? Probably the latter.

It's a 14. It was the day time running light. Had I know how big a job it was, I would have pulled both sides and upgraded the headlights.

I feel your pain trauma, wife had an 04 Maxima and I had to take the entire front bumper cover off to get to the screws to take the headlight out in order to change the headlight bulb.  Literally less than 1/2” between the back If the headlight and the body inside the engine bay.  I studied it for an hour or so before I finally got on YouTube to figure out what to do.  My truck and her Armada are much easier but you do have to go through the wheel well to access them.

There should be a written rule or code that any bulb change on a car or light truck should be able to be done by the owner in less than 10 minutes. Rant over.   :-*

40 years of twisting wrenches I would love to say "I've seen it all", clearly not. We all in the field learned to HATE engineers long ago when we had to jack engines out of the car to gain access to the spark plugs. But never to be outdone I had to do plugs on a 2009 Camry, get this, windshield wipers had to be removed.  ??? ???

We started doing that with the Avalanche back in '02 and it seems to have spread.
