Is anyone using one and if so what do you use? and do you recommend it??

I read an article on a Scorpio Alarm SR-i500 .Might buy it if i dont get any negitive reviews

I'm aware of a couple of guys who have tried this unit. Their findings were that the advertised half mile range of the RF unit was overstated as the reliability was more like 25 to 30 yards. I tend to think I can do much better than that to protect my bike out to 100 yards with my Glock .45! [smiley=bigok.gif]

Before I retired and before the SEEG, I occasionally rode my Road King to work. Because we had several Harleys stolen from the parking lots, (even with roving security), I decided to add both a cable and the H-D remote alarm. I have owned it for about two years. While I can't tell you what the ultimate range of mine is, I can tell you that concrete walls are its downfall. At less than 100 yards, the pager unit cannot communicate with the security system through a concrete wall. In line of site, I have tested it to distances of close to 1/4 mile. In restaurants (made of wood), the pager can communicate with the security system at 300 yards. Overall, I was disappointed that the system didn't perform better than it does. That said, it is better than not having one but it may not be the best system available.

If I recall correctly, not all PDs have the capability of tracking with this product. That would lead me to believe that the coverage although very good is spotty.

I saw that show also and have the following questions.

The theif said that disc locks could be popped with a screwdriver. Anybody ever heard of that?

The thief also said they could cut right thru the Kryptonite cables. Is that true? Is that a 10 second cut thru the cable or a 5 minute cut?

WOW, if it's true I'm upset!
I always put the disc lock on and at night when out of town I usually put the 20mm cable thru 2 front tires or around a post.

Security System story, Mr WeCVO and I went to Daytona Bike week last year, and I was riding the Road King at the time. Even lowered, I could not reach the kick stand to save my soul. Necesity being the mother of invention they say, I had simply found some old yellow string in the garage that was the right length to tie a loop in one end that I put over the kick stand and the other end I would drape on the seat so I could pull the stand up before departure. I would just then fold the string up and put away in a windshield bag. Well on many an occasion when returning to our bikes, people would all be hovered around the 98, ann road king, and not the 04 cvo seeg. All they were trying to figure out was what kind of security system we had on the RK that had a wire from the kick stand to the gas tank. See, security is all in the eyes of the beholder. Ha Ha! did you hurry home and apply for a patent on the remote kickstand operation device? I'm sure that the MoCo will be glad to offer it as a genuine accessory if you'll just have it made in some foreign country. The yellow color was the unique factor, fer sure. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I think I'll add a yellow wire to my Cherry Red. I guess if you have a yellow bike you would need to add a red wire.

The disc locks and the cables are not as hard to defeat as the makers would have you believe. If you use both, you are gonna discourage a good percentage of the thieves because they will find a bike that has neither. Several years ago at a m/c run in northern Cal. I was walking thru a sea of Harleys when I saw a truck (4 door) stop by a bike. 4 LARGE guys got out, picked the Harley up and put it in the bed. I thought their bike broke down till they let it fall on its side and left in a hurry..bottom line, if they want your bike they will get it...I too have a .45 cal to add to the alarm.

I will have my first HD in April. (SEEG yellow). [bgcolor=Yellow]I know I have to live with it [/bgcolor]but I'm quite worried about thiefs!! for 3 reasons.

1) It is an Harley-Davidson.
2) It is a CVO
3) it is yellow .... easy to spot!!

For sure I will have a disk lock, a cable and an alarm. Sure, I could bring covers, and more cables .... but if I'm doing long trips, I would need space in my saddlebags for luggages .... specially with a passenger.

Is it always stressing to own an HD? An EG is made to do long trip .... but how do you feel all night long when you stay at the hotel and cannot see you bike. Even if you can see your bike from the room .. does that mean that you cannot sleep?

Is it that risky to own an SEEG? I like to ride, but I don't want to get an heart attack because I'm too stress.... Just want to enjoy it!!

How do you do?

Hotmetal, I think the best security system is a cheap lightweight cover, mine hardly takes up any room at all, that way nobody knows what you have under there for security i think i paid 30 bucks for it. with that and the factory alarm thats standard on these bikes if someone steals it they were going to get it no matter what you did.

I agree with Dave on the cover. I use the factory alarm, a disc lock and the cover. I've had several Harleys and you learn to pick the better parking spots. On some trips when a couple guys brought cables, we have hooked the bikes together if no post was near. All Harleys are sought after by thieves, just make yours harder to take. Don't worry to the point you aren't enjoying the ride. [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Hotmetal welcome to the board. As for your question............I do a lot of overnite trips and stay in anything from Motel 6 all the way up to Radisson or Hiltons. I have traveled all across this country, back and forth, up and down, western Canada and Mexico.

The measures I take: I try to always get a street level room with parking in front of the room (but that's not always possible). If I get back to the motel late and all the close parking spaces are taken, I'm not above putting it directly on the sidewalk.

I have my bike programmed where the alarm sets itself thirty seconds after I turn it off. Sometimes that's a nuscience (like when I'm putting gas in it and I'm still sitting on it) but the protection that it provides me (when I'm running into the store, or into a friends for a second or anywhere, where I do not normally mess with locking it.

Besides making it as visable to my room as possible and the factory alarm, I lock the ignition (which pops real easy with a pipe wrench, so it's only a deterant and not a real lock) and I use a disc lock (it keeps the bike from being wheeled away and can not be cut off.

Other than that, the best protection I have is my insurance and that's why I have it. For that reason, I do not loose any sleep worrying about my bike. On insurance, I might suggest that you get insurance that covers it for full replacement rather than insurance that will just pay off the loan.

I rarely use a cover, on long trips. I just don't have room for it and never seemed to use it the few times I did take one. Use YOUR best judgement and damn good insurance and enjoy the ride and get your sleep! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

one thing i learned about security is the round key Used to be a good lock, but now there is a tool that can open them right up,, very simple ..the guy that showed me
how simple it was recomended a lock that the key is double sided (teeth on both sides)
they take much more time to pick..

Wow almost 10 years since this started.

The Scorpio Alarm seems to have kept up with the times and is a do it yourself install, unlike Lojack.

Anyone try this yet? Not to concerned anymore with an almost 10 year old bike, but with the newer bikes costing so much, might be something to look into.

Maybe, but protecting your bike at a hundred yards with a short barrel handgun will get you in more trouble then the bloke who is trying to lift your bike.
