Great news, I will sure have to look at these. I have hated the too tall 1st gear and the fact that I need to be going at least 110 ( that's kilometers    ) to even get it comfortably in 6th gear. A lot of my driving means  using fifth gear at around 3K . This new tranney sounds like it will be perfect.

not to mention the noise that 5th gear makes

Where will it all end 7 speed tranny's.  No mention of price yet, been looking at an Andrews 30 tooth sprocket because i hate pulling the trailer with that high a first gear.  Might be worth looking at as an option.  The cruise drive tranny doesn't shift that well to me.

I'm just guessing, but I believe the idea here is for Baker to produce a trans that does what their famous DD6 does PLUS gives you the overdrive gear you get with H-D and others. Baker's DD6 is a Direct Drive 1/1 final gearing as opposed to H-D's .86/1. The Baker DD6 gives you better pull throughout the 6 gears, but the 6th is not much better than a standard 5-speed for fuel economy and reduced engine speed. Sooooooo, I believe that Baker is trying to give you the best of both worlds. My guess would be you'll never see 7th gear unless you're out on a superslab with 100 miles to the next gas stop.  Just my guess, so if you want to bash this post, feel free. I'm talking out my a$$ mostly - - - - I think  :D

Honda did something of the sort with an extra gear on a jackshaft making a 5 x 2 ----10 speed on their 900 CB's back in the early 80's

I had one and it was a blast for it's time . But as only Honda can do it had the worst seat for any ride over 25 miles. Just another bike in a list of way to many. The pic is from the BIGDOG arcives, It's not the best pic but you get the idea.

Baker DD7, anyone use one of these yet????

I've thought about all the different ways to "fix" the 1st gear launch problems, but clutch basket or drive sprocket, both get you more rpms at the top end.

I'm happy with my rpms at the cruise speed top end and I don't feel that I'm lugging the bike at all at 70 mph.

Just a lower 1st gear would be a big help and if it means 7 speeds instead of just the 6, so be it.

Anyone have any feedback yet on the use of a Baker DD7?

Thanks.

I'm waiting for the same report from somebody.   I, too, want to keep the low highway revs but increase the ratio in first and second.  Taking off takes too much clutch slippage or fear it's going to stall, and a comfortable rpm in second is about 5 mph faster than city traffic.  Somebody on here said several months ago they were going to put one in; I guess they never did.  If I go through with my "make it stop sounding like it will blow up at any second" engine rebuild this spring I plan to do the DD7 swap.
