saw this today on IMDB

The main character Jax is partially based on specific aspects of Edward Winterhalder's life as portrayed in his first book "Out in Bad Standings".

Have not read Out in Bad Standings.  Read Honor Few, Fear None recently.  Book appears to be somewhat similar in some respects from the reviews.

The wife & I watched Deadwod - great show.  Utter is an interesting character.  We stayed in Deadwood last trip out & would stay there again.  It's touristy, but the town is fun.  Parking sucks.

I know, I know. Screwed up his name. Got me.

Love the town, fake prostitues and all. This is where we stay when we do sturgis.

I too love the town. First saw it before the casino's moved in back in the mid 80's. Stayed just outside of town in a campground with the family in 88. Anyway, Imade a list of everybody's name in the show and Google'd all of em. Better than 1/2 were real people. According to David Milch, the series creator, producer and head writer, the made up folks were to fill in the blanks where history didn't record the names of the prostitutes, miners etc that made up most of the town. Swearingen, Bullock, Star, Hearst (of course) and Utter are all in the history books however and Utter was as I said especially interesting. Hard to envision a guy with that acute a sense of cleanliness amid all that squalor but according to history he kept a tub in his tent (yes tent) and bathed every day and was fastidious about his dress. If you've never watched this show, rent the DVD set (just be warned the language is blue)

Now you see the adventure of the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood?

Many graves of the characters in the Deadwood HBO series are in Mt. Moriah.  The Seth Bullock gravesite is about 500 ft. above all others.  There is a "Chinese" section of the cemetery where WO resides.  The Reverend Smith is there, the newpaper editor, Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickock, the doctor, etc.  Visiting is a sense of old west history and a bit fun because of the HBO series.  Plus, it is a challenging ride getting there.  About as steep of a rode as I have ever been on.

was more real than many might imagine. The rush to judgement and planned hit on a fellow member for being a rat is one of the major things about 1% clubs that disgusted me and pushed me away after all those years. I'm not going to get into any details, but that was all too real for me. The other thing being the manipulative machinations of Gemma regarding not only her son's love interests but the other women in the club. Again, no details, but have seen it 1st hand and had to deal with the uproar created by it. The OK Corral stuff is pure Hollywood. Even Laughlin a few years back wasn't a firefight on par with the scene with the Mayan gun drop off. No L.E.A. in the country would tolerate anything even remotely approaching that level of gun play. And if the Feds were already on the scene ? As Tony Soprano would say - - - - fughedbaoutit
