Average brake pad life expected
« on: October 11, 2005, 09:39:59 AM »

Mornin, I was wondering was the average pad life is on our dressers.  Anyone replaced theirs yet.  I am going on 16K.  Thanks

With 16K, you're probably due for rear pads.  I changed mine out at 11K on an E-
Glide when I put a new rear tire on.

I replaced the rear on my 99 ULTRA at about 20K and the front at 32K but it had the single piston calipers, from talking with other folks the single piston seem to wear longer for some reason. With your mileage I'd start keeping an eye on them.

Their is still some left but I would still change them.

A lot depends on your riding style and the terrain you ride in.  Some of us go through back breaks a lot quicker than others.  Just to be on the safe side it's a good idea to eyeball them at 10k and every couple of thousand thereafter.  After all, rotors get expensive when you push the pedal a thousand miles too long.

I agree with Dean,

After my 2nd rear tire (15k to 17k) I always have HD Tech change the rear brakes.
To me I want a safe tire and good brakes and the cost is not near as expensive as running the brake pads down into the brake rotor. Ewww metal on metal

Nothing worse to me, is getting out for a ride and have my scooter break down
