Great news. If this is on the CVO's maybe it will take of the load clunk (from kickback) you get sometimes when starting. A much needed upgrade.

HD installed one of these in the first 09 SERG I had, I liked it. Wish they had removed it from the first 09 to install in this one I have, would of liked to have it.   Doc

They didn't phase it out. Still a SE Part. I'm shocked to hear it's stock on CVO's. But I'm not convinced either. I have it on Cybil. Like Jim said, very nice part. :2vrolijk_21:

I am getting ready to put on a 30T trans pulley on my 09 SE Fat Bob and would like to know while I have the primary open if I have the new compensator. does anyone have a part # for the new one or how can I tell what I have? Bike seems to buck or surge a little bit in second gear going through town.

And yours DID NOT come with it Gutter Man! Put it on though. Now's the time. Think about the clutch too if you have done engine mods! POS won't last 30K if you're at all aggressive! Rivera ProClutch is going in mine very shortly! ;)

That's what started my comp. ass. replacement. Had Jim install the Pro Clutch ( a bunch of the NorCal group has stripped out their stock clutch basket housing) and found my comp. was going, primary chain was torn up, inner primary bearing (2nd one) was walking and starter clutch(2nd one) was shot. Thankfull for extended warranty!   Go with the Pro Clutch while you are in there  :2vrolijk_21:

I got the newer comp. and didn't even know it untill now :)

If you have it on your 07 trapperdog I would think it would already be in my 09. I havent taken it apart yet. just looking for a day here to tear it down where I can spend time with no interuptions. Work is slow in the gutter business until I want to work on the bike, if you know what I mean. I will look into the Riveria clutch. Its getting tough slipping stuff for the bike by my wife. The deal was if I got the CVO I wouldnt have to do anything to it because it has most of the mods already done. Well like I said "most of the mods" not all. Just like the stripper pole in my reckroom was supposed to come down when I bought the bike. Can't find the special screwdriver I used when I put it up, kids must have took it!!

Any way I guess I will have to wait to see if the new compensator is already installed. Thanks guys

Gutter, I should have clarified myself. When Jim (hd dood) replaced  all the forementioned including the comp ass he apparently used the new model. I didn't know that until I saw his post above and responded.
Post some pics of the stripper pole, occupied if possible.  ;) :)  Roger

I also would like o know if the CVO Ultra has the SE compensator.  Put one on my 09 Ultra Classic and am amazed at the difference. Like to see the information on the clutch also to see if it has the SE clutch spring.

Part number for the compensator listed: 40274-08

From 2010 FLHXSE Parts Catalog: 83935-09

Judging by this, my guess is that the 2010's do not have the SE compensator... although this one is newer... on chicago's site, this one lists for $30 less than the SE.

Not sure I understand the post saying   the part number 83535-09 is a part of the 2010 SE.  SE compensator kit is 40274-08, this is part of the kit but not the complete kit.  Maybe the rest of the parts in the kit are shown separately.  Has anyone got or see the complete parts list for the compensator on the 2010 CVO Ultra?

With the exception of the bolt securing the sprocket assembly to the crank, the comp sprocket in the Trike and all 2010 CVOā€™s are identical to the SE component.

83935-09 listed for the 2010 SEā€™s does not include the spring-pac or the alternator rotor, which is required to run this sprocket.

The attachment clearly illustrates that the sub assembly 83935-09 is made up items 2, 3 and 4; hub, cam and sprocket. 83935-09 is also listed in the 2010 CVO parts catalogs.

The SE kit includes additional parts needed to convert the standard comp sprocket to the high capacity unit. Does that answer the question, or am I missing something?

Think I lost track of the question, perhaps whether the 2010's have the SE Compensator? I'm going by my 2010 SESG parts book. Thanks dep47 for the attachment with the breakout of the SE Compensator. Part 83936-09 is the spring pack in both the SE kit as well as in the SESG. The only difference between what's listed in my SESG and the SE kit is the screw. There are no additional parts between the kit and what's on the 2010. It would appear this is the high capacity unit.
SE Comp sprocket is not stock on any bike. ;)

Hoist! :coolblue:

I'll reverse my earlier post and state that it seems this "kit" is installed, at least on the SESG. I did check the clutch hub parts and they are not the same.

But only a fool presumes to know what someone else's intentions are. And only a total asshole will find nothing better to do than to only find fault in others, and then presume it was done out of "entertainment" value. So no apologies for calling him a total asshole since he seems to take such pride in being one, a self-proclaimed title. And once you see someone's true colors, you know that by only ass-kissing, being disingenuous, or finding pleasure in other's errors, the only value to that is to himself. And it's pretty sad that he's so good at it, because most will never even understand what I'm talking about here. Not til you see those TRUE COLORS for yourself will you understand. Be very careful of the wolf in sheep's clothing people!

Thanks for the information " Hoist".  I do not have the parts list for the CVO, but know this is and item I want on my CVO when I get it.  If it was not there then I would just add it to my list of things to do.

When I went through all that mess with my bike. I asked for the SE comp ass. I was told by the dealer they had seen 2 of them fail already and one was on a new trike. Only got a couple of hundred miles before parking for the winter so am keeping my fingers crossed. Last year had the 0905 done just before parking with the same amount of miles only to make the Solvang trip and come home with another head and base gasket leak. :'(

I had a failure with it too Terry. It appears you need to be very careful and follow their installation instructions to a tee. The thrust washer is very sensitive it appears. That's a wear part made from some type of friction material. But if it disintegrates, the whole assembly becomes loose, even though the comp itself is still torqued to the crank. I will be trying it again, albeit in very strict accordance with the installation instructions. I hope it holds up this time. ;)

HeHe!!! :dizzy2: :lipsrsealed2: :lipsrsealed2: :lipsrsealed2: :zwtf: :smilie_staub: :smilie_staub: :smilie_staub:

The correct answer supplied by djkak in post #24 is below.

My apologies upfront if I'm hijacking this post but Ms Claus brought me a chrome inner primary and I'm in the process of installing it today. While at the step to remove the compensator I remembered the "chatter" in here about potential issues with the compensator so I'm using the search tool while eating some lunch.
I dont know what the issue is with the compensator on my 09 SERG,  I've read several threads but cant understand the issue.  Do I need to replace my compensator while I'm in there??

The SE compensator gives added protection to the crankshaft, as does the IDS system.  Here is a good explanation of why:

So the SE compensator is to help eliminate the crank wobbling issue that appeared in the 07 bikes?   I was under the impression that the crank run out was a manufacturing issue as opposed to one that would develop the crank play with ordinary use.   Sorry to be a pain,  just want to understand before I button this thing back up.

The purpose of the compensator is to absorb drivetrain shock that impacts the crankshaft.  This also is the purpose of the IDS.  The SE compensator offers increased protection over the stock compensator.  It reduces the probability of your crankshaft "scissoring".   If your motor is basically stock, you likely don't "need" to install the SE compensator.  If you have increased the performance and torque of your motor, you could potentially benefit from installing the SE compensator.

Understood!  Thanks for the helpful info.
Looks like Ms Claus forgot the gasket between the inner primary and the crankcase so I'm dead in the water until a trip across the mountain to FireDood's part of the State.  Since the bike is internally stock I'll probably save myself the $$ an opt out on the SE unit.

I did notice some pretty strange marks on the piece that slides into the sprocket,  dont think I've notice that before on older bikes I've had apart.

How can we be sure it is on the new CVO bikes. Anyone got the part's list for the 2010 CVO's yet.
I have the (2010 parts list/2010 Service manual touring/2010 Service manual SE). I do not see any parts listed as is indicated in the attachment thread above. I am not a mechanic but the following are not listed in the parts manual.

"The perfect addition to a complete performance upgrade, and complements the installation of the Screamin' EagleĀ® Performance Clutch Hub P/N 37976-08. (Available September 2008)

 40274-08"

Am I looking at the wrong material?

Items highlighted on page 3 of the I-Sheet for the 40274-08 SE sprocket are identical to items 16 and 17 on page 2 of your parts book attachment.

You got my curiosity up. So I looked at the 2010 FLHXSE Parts Catalog p/n 99433-10.

On page 44-45 the Compensator Assembly Index Number 16 is 83935-09.

It would seem that the 2010's and maybe the 2009's CVO's have a newer version.

I hope it holds up as well as your experience with the SE  Compensator.

The 2010 110"  got it, not the 09 110" but the Triglide 09 had it. The major parts from the 08 SE Compensator are are in the 2010 110" motors and Tri glides as stock.   Doc

The Softail Rockers have a comp sprocket design similar to the SE unit. The part numbers for the sprocket and spring-pac are different, but visually it looks the same.

Unfortunately that was the best one out of about 6 clicks with this POS camera.  I've already fastened everything up so I cant get a better one.

The marks were red,  both inside the sprocket(only about half the circumference of the surface was marked up) and also on the splined piece. (the spline piece was marked up most all the way around it.   I dont know where they came from or understand it.

From the picture I see looks like the assembly had no assembly lube on it on fire up. Or low primary oil.   Doc
