Thanks Jeff! I'm thinkin 31T w/no belt change as the way to go. Still keep all the same comp components. Can even try that cush drive I picked up. I see no downside to this except maybe giving up a lil top end. I guess no more 140. Prolly only 135 now!!! :o ;D ;)

BTW Jeff, the highway peg mount I have is for a 4-speed frame, not FXR. Sorry man! :(

Hoist! :coolblue:

I'm undecided on 30 vs 31. My SM is recommending the 30t based on the tranny gearing. Makes 6th more usable.

Thanks for checking on the hiway mounts. I'll keep searching. Happy Turkey day buddy and to everyone else!

My FXR4 I changed out the rear pully and belt to a 70 tooth when I went to a 150 rear tire that made a huge differnce
gearing makes  alot of differnce depending on how you ride and where you want to use the power

What was the tooth count of the original rear pulley? I thought it was already a 70t.

I beleave it was a 65 tooth ,I know if you set one over the other it was like a 1/2inch larger than the stock one/quote]

JW- Here are some calculations to compare. All are done using the 66T rear pulley and a rear tire diameter of 25.38". To avoid lugging the motor under 2k RPMs, 55 MPH is the lowest speed to use 6th gear with any of the available pulleys. Pick your cruise speed and determine your desired RPM.

32T = 2032 RPM @ 55 MPH
31T = 2098 RPM @ 55 MPH
30T = 2168 RPM @ 55 MPH

32T = 2402 RPM @ 65 MPH
31T = 2479 RPM @ 65 MPH
30T = 2562 RPM @ 65 MPH

32T = 2771 RPM @ 75 MPH
31T = 2861 RPM @ 75 MPH
30T = 2956 RPM @ 75 MPH

32T = 3141 RPM @ 85 MPH
31T = 3242 RPM @ 85 MPH
30T = 3350 RPM @ 85 MPH

Man, that's extremely helpful! Looks like the 30T is a winning combo.
Thanks for the table. It's in my bookmarks!

In my case,  with the 09 SE Ultra,  having a 68 tooth rear wheel sprocket.    Going to a 30T trans sprocket only gives a final ratio of 3.06 which is only (6.6%) better than stock!

On the other hand,  going with a 30T engine gear ends up with an overall of 3.25  which is a lot closer to the 3.37 on my old bike that I really liked.

Problem as someone said earlier in this post........(No comp) with the Evo Indust.  30T gear and thus the extra vibes, etc.   I have one but have not installed it due to comments like that one.

Not sure what to do,   lot of $$ to spend for only less than 7% gain. :nixweiss:

That's too close the ole 5-speed gearing in high gear for me Jeff. With them, I was always looking for another gear. Now, I can hardly use 6th, unless at 75-80 or above. That 31T sounds like it'll bring it right in between, and allow me to use 6th a lil more in normal traffic, without compromising top end too much! ;)

Something to think about! But ya know Howie, you rarely get out of 4th gear by 75 mph!  ;)

Although it may not seem like much on paper, my experience is that a 7% change to the final drive ratio is significant. The 3.37 you mention was likely mated to either an OD 6-speed or a 5-speed where you would be searching for another gear on the highway. A 3.37 with the 6-speed Cruise Drive will still leave you searching for another gear at highway speeds. With the exception of 1st gear, I think the 09+ FLH gearing is perfect.  A couple of mods and a good tune provide more than enough TQ for 6th gear use from 55+.

" With the exception of 1st gear, I think the 09+ FLH gearing is perfect"...... :nixweiss:

Well,  you would be correct to assume my problem was with the 5 speed and looking for another gear at highway speeds,.....but the (exception of 1st gear) is "key" to me.  The damn SE Ultra is over 850 pounds (without) me on it!!!

Just as an (aside),  any bike over 700 pounds ought to come equipted STANDARD (NO EXTRA CHARGE) with reverse gear.  Geeeeeeeeeez,  even their new tricycle from HD has the reverse as "optional"           WTF.

The "lag" with the FBW throttle and my T-Man cam seem to aggrevate getting going with two up..........I'm not a happy camper with the whole deal. :(

Might have em look over your tune. I had a bit of a lag early on but it was taken care of by the tech with the Super Tuner. She's very responsive now. I too have T-Man cams, 590's.

Black Diamond......I'm about to have them re-do the "tune"...........The asst. Serv Mgr just told me that the whole crew recently got the latest training on the super tuner and software and that I should bring the bike back in for a "freebie" tuneup.

So,  we will see how that goes. ::)
