Primary Noise in neutral
« on: August 21, 2010, 05:45:24 PM »

Hi,

Just purchased an 07 FLHTCUSE2 and took it out for a 800 mile ride, noticed that I had a whirring sound from the front of the primary while the bike was in neutral, but when I placed it in gear with the clutch pulled it didn't make the noise.(Bike stopped at a light)  It also made this a few times while downshifting coming to a stop.  Thanks for your help.

That is strange, my 08 SERK just started to make the noise you described in neutral last week and I have 35k miles on her.  It is also making a louder than normal sound when going from first to second.  Lots of noise when downshifting down to first even when going real slow.  Let us know what you find out.

Yup, that be what I have too!
Read a couple posts down.  Now looking to see who did the job themselves
and what tools and parts are needed.  Don't think it will be too hard of
a job, just a little patience and the right stuff.

TimBone, did your replace the primary adjuster also or just the inner primary bearing.  Never had this problem regarding noise, just leaks.  The bearing in question is on the inner primary that slides over the transmission main shaft?

Haven't replaced anything yet, but seems like a fairly straightforward job
and shouldn't be too difficult to do.
Hopefully will have done in the next couple weeks.

Spider,
I did both the ADJer and the IPB bearing and the seal that came with the Baker IPB kit.
Along with them I did the SE Compensator too. All worked out well.
You may want to go with the Baker IPB Kit, has a much better design and the seal
is top notch too.  Very happy and no leaks from here.
Hope that info helps you!

I had the same whirring sound in neutral and it got progressively worst. Took it into the dealer because it only had 2000 KM on it. They told me it was the bearing and that everything else looked okay.
