Harley heated grips
« on: July 30, 2004, 04:55:04 PM »

Just learned - - the hard way - - that Harley had lots of problems with their 'first generation' of the heated grips. Pulled them during the winter (?) and reissued a revamped line, quietly!

The problem being they suddenly come on, and stay on, till they 'burn' themselves out. Then it's re-wire time, and IF you did internal wiring, wow - - what a hassle. My dealer (Downtown Harley- Seattle) honored the parts AND labor, out of pocket though they did the original job last September. My hats off to them.

As for the 'warranty' on electrical H-D parts, technically after 90 days, tough luck (!)

Of course, not a word from the factory...sigh...

I burned out two sets of heated grips before I gave up on them. The dealer covered the first set out of their pocket, I never asked for anything on the second set. Both sets were put on before the time you indicated for the new version.
