Rear fender LED strip
« on: October 16, 2013, 12:28:10 AM »

Here's a pic of my Breakout with the chrome glow LED strip that replaces the stupid reflector. I also had the bike lowered 2" in the back to eliminate some of the gap between the fender and tire

How bright is this light outside during the day?  I am considering buying one and removing the stock lights.

Biggest complaint I have is the light can be used as a running light, brake light, or turn signals, but not all 3 at the same time. I used it as a running light to make me more visible. I'll take pics of it with the lights off when I get a chance

I put Custom Dynamic LED blinkers on the other day, still debating this fender light.
Looks good at night, a good day shot would be helpful.

I wired my LED strip as the Chrome Glow instructions said, I have turn signals and brake but no running. There is only 3 wires coming from the strip, one black and two red. Not exactly certain how they got all the lights to work in the video. Any suggestions anyone??

I think you need to build a dual circuit.  Here is a great example I found that should work.

Run, Brake, Turn Signals would be the reason I would buy the LED strip.  Was considering that purchase, now rethinking that move.  Thanks for posting for us, the video was misleading for sure.

Yeah, I think the video is from a shop that installed the product on a customers bike.  They must have built the circuit I'm guessing.  If you look on Chrome Glows site they only list is as a Brake/Turn Signal.

Ok, upon further communication with Chrome Glow I found out that (24V) is absolutely correct; I need to add a "Dual Element Circuit" to each power wire coming out of the light bar, if I want running lights in addition to brake and turn signals. I just ordered two of Chrome Glows part #6122-00. ($6.00 each) This should fix the problem. I will post the results after the parts arrive. I will also take a daylight pic for those that want it.

Just installed mine.  Wow, what a great improvement!

Installed with running light, turn signal and brake.

The running light is just a little brighter than the two side lights, so it sure will be ok in daylight.  I'll try to take a picture tomorrow if I arrive early.

Shipping from FL to Qc took 2 days!  But!!!!!!  Unless you really can't wait, ask for USPS shipment if you're Canadian... With UPS brokerage, the shipping cost climbed at $80!

 >:(

But easily forgotten, looking at that badass beauty!

Here is what it looks like installed without being lit up. I had previously installed a sportster taillight inplace of the reflector.

2 minutes later, back of my house...

Still running light and right flashing...

Note: When installing, you have the option to place the strip directly on the border of the fender or just behind the fender lip.  I prefered the second option cuz I prefer to see the lip (still a little orange paint that I don't want to mask  :-*) and see less of a plastic strip.  CUZCO's will probably be brighter and easyer to see from all angles.  Matter of taste, but looking at both, whatever the option, still the best looking bike there is !!!!    :bananarock:

What is the brand of the LED strip and how was it installed?  Do you have the wiring diagram or did you have the parts installed by another source?

It's from ChromeGlow in FL.

It's a DIY thing and wiring takes about 5 minutes...  You simply hack current wiring, everything is explained and included I the package...

Takes less than 15 minutes to install.

Leaning toward this LED strip and planning on buying the smoked version.  I have already changed out my lights with Custom Dynamics LEDs and put smoked lenses on the back.

Will send pics once I have it installed, maybe some pics of the stages of installation too.  Not going to happen for a little bit, in the middle of a snow storm and temps that are expected to dip to -11 and highs of 1 or 2 for the next couple days.

Will it work just as a break light?  I don't prefer the turn signal option. Thanks!  A post of the directions would be appreciated.

Yes it will.  If you want to wire it to be off when running and only come on for the brake light then you can just buy the light.  If you want it to be on when running, and brighter when brakes are applied, you will need a little harness they sell for that.

As for the instructions, simple.  You tap into 2 wires under your seat and stick the light to the inside of the fender with the included double stick tape.

Hardest part was removing the reflector. Nice product. Definitely suggest mounting on the lip.

Finally, home long enough to put on the Chrome Glow LED lights.
Installed so they would function as Run/Brake/Turn.

Took the fender off to take the reflector off and made the routing of the wires easy.

Much cleaner look.  If I need to put a reflector back on the back of the bike, I will research a different solution.

Nice !!!    :2vrolijk_21:

For the reflector thing, I was thinking about using the one from the fender.  Canadian model has a metal plate that could be mounted with a 3M super tape...  I guess...    :-\

So, stupid question.  If one had just the LED bar that acted as both running, brake and signal lights, would the stock lights on either side of the fender be necessary?

May depend on what state you live in......However......the more lights the better you can be seen!!!  Myself I want lots of lights behind me.
