I got a 03 roadglide had the motor built a couple years ago. made her a 103 with a 50 mm throttle body se heads 257 cams it mad 107 hp and 116 tq. road only highway and on trips never beat her but my cam bearing came apart and took out the whole motor.
So the dealership wants $6300 to rebuild her. or $4500 for a long block use my se heads and buy new cams on top of that for another 103 or $5200 plus installation for a SE 120st. I no I wont bother rebuilding the same motor again. so which way do you think I should go?

S&S 124 LC is probably more reliable than the 120 st.

Another vote for S&S, reusing the same Harley stuff that has burnt you once is the definition of insanity.

I like the S&S too but unfortunately I am dealing with a dealership I haven't heart any hooror stories about the street tuned 120 like I heard about the 120r

If you are paying the bill then I would make the suggestion of walking away from that dealership and finding an indy that deals with S&S. If thats your cost after some kind of deal the dealer is making you I would still find an S&S dealer if big motor is what your after. The 103 would still make a good motor, with the right build.The problem areas are the same with the 103 as the 120, but some aftermarket parts can fix those problems

We just don't have any good aftermarket guys in New Mexico anymore. There is one who used to do good work but H doesn't care any more and says he won't warenty parts only his work and Everytime something goes wrong he blames the parts not his work.

Many HD Dealers are also S&S Dealers (/ Drag Specialties) Dealers,,, doesn't hurt to ask...

Thunderbird, Duke city and Santa Fe Harley won't install S&S. They won't even do Jim's motors and they are the builders I think of the SE 120 r and St. That's how crazy they are. And S&S has a better warranty.

You might call S&S and ask for a recommendation of a dealer closest 2 you,,, could be a ways, but at least you have a starting point...
You could also check with the Harley dealers about pricing on a 103 Stroker crate motor??
I personally know of a couple of horror stories with the 120 St...

if it comes down to it, I would even consider shipping the bike to a Indy to install the S&S. You are close to some good builders in Texas and Az.

Give Rich Joos a call, New Life Builders in Belen. He will instal SS motors and has his own Dyno for tuning.

I have worked with him in the past. First motor he built for me was bullet proof and strong the next one I sent him fell apart a week later and he told me he only wareties his work not the parts so he wanted me to pay him for a second rebuild. I don't even trust his Dyno work anymore

You next option is to Trailer you bike to GMR performance in Fort Worth Texas, a 650 mile trip and have Steve install a SS Motor of your choice. I like you have used New life Builders at one time but now make the trip to GMR for my tuning needs.

Shop around. I've seen one HD 120 motors for under 3800 bucks new.

Looking for a motor?
I can tell you after fixing enough of them and being an S&S dealer the 124" crate motor has issues and so does the HD 120r. Have not seen good life without an overhaul prematurely. It is better to custom build a motor or fix a new one before it goes into service.

Agree with Don
Both s&s and se engines can have issues.....for every story you hear of reliability you hear one of disappointment or component failure
A bench built engine using components from a dozen manufacturers can be more economical and far more reliable than a crate engine built by hourly guys who honestly don't care
