Bluetooth stopped working!
« on: May 26, 2007, 10:41:32 AM »

I was halfway thru road trip last week when I noticed the the "phone" indicator in my radio display wasn't there (I had already made 2 calls on the trip).  I got out my phone and tried to manually connect to the bluetooth on the scoot and it wouldn't sync up.

The radio works fine -- I checked the connectors on the module in the tour pack and they seem fine.  I believe the unit is powered from harness extension  they installed when they installed the module.

I'll probably just take it by the dealer in a few days but wanted to find out from the brain trust if I overlooked something..

Mark, try actually disconnecting the connector from the Bluetooth module, then turn on the ignition, let the radio initialise, turn the ignition off again, reconnect the connector on the module and turn the ignition back on.

Jim,

It worked!!!!  Damn I love this forum! :orange:

Is this the equivalent of slapping an old tube tv on the top to improve reception?  LOL

Thanks for the advice,

I was think more in the line of a "hard reboot". Either way good information to know for those that have this feature. Glad it worked out for you, and Jim thanks for sharing. :2vrolijk_21:

So a reset lets the radio find the bluetooth module again.  Did you ever get any satisfaction from HK or HD on the CB problems?

No, never did, 2L - and I gave up trying because of course I changed to an 07 bike, and the CB on these can indeed communicate with earlier ones.... I have to say the transmission on the HK radios is not nearly so good though (even 07 to 07) - very sharp, and tinny, which makes it difficult to recognise who's speaking, and almost impossible to decipher if you;re going any speed at all....  :(

Got a question regarding your bluetooth....It appears that you are using your bluetooth and are able to talk to callers.  I can connect with bluetooth and hear a caller on the headset, but have not been able to talk back...the person on the other end can't hear me.  I also read in the Zumo forum that this is a known problem, and as afar as I could tell, there isn't a fix yet.  Am I wrong?  Can you describe how you talk through your helmet intercom system, (bluetooth) to a caller.  I would love to get this figured out.  Thanks for the help.

I didn't have to do anything other than to pair them up.  Can you command the unit to dial a number (via voice)?  (if so the headset mic works....)

I just checked the manual and there is no way to change the mic level, only speaker volume.

Are you sure you phone is supported my the module?

http://www.harley-davidson.com/cp/moar/en/xmsr.asp

1 ) then click on right side "optional components" table  ==> "Bluetooth Handsfree Cell Phone Interface"

Look at the table at the bottom of the page ordered by provider.  Maybe time for a new phone....

I have a 3/4 Arai Helmet and J&M audio installed.  People say the calls are clearer than when I'm sitting at my desk at my home office.  I only wish the helmet would mask out the roar from my V&H ovals.......

Am I right in guessing you're using the Zumo to provide the 'tooth? Audio connected to the AUX input?  That won't work through the normal HD microphone!   We are talking about the HD Bluetooth module that integrates with the 06-later audio system and pairs with the phone.....

Jim,

Yes, I am using the Zumo for the bluetooth.  So can you explain what I need to do exactly.  Is there a separate bluetooth module from HD that needs to be installed first?  Then how does it all work with the Zumo?  I apologize, but I am completely confused.  Appreciate if you can untangle this for me.

Ah.... Yes there is ... 76408-06 Bluetooth module that goes in tourpack and the wiring harness for it (I don't have that number).   Order both from Chicago HD and get 20% off....

I don't believe you can connect your Zumo to it though; only your cell phone (if it is supported).  If someone has got Zumo to connect please speak up!

See this post - Zumo "extras". I'm wondering if this explains it? :nixweiss:

OK, there is no way you can use the Zumo to speak on your phone via the HD audio system.   The HD Bluetooth module integrates with the HK Audio System on '06-later bikes, and allows you to connect your phones (not all phones work though - there's a list on the HD site) into the HD audio system to make and receive calls.

Nixobilly,

Are you talking about the actual speaker volume for either the front or back based on using the harley mic system or are you talking about something else to raise / lower the volume?

The reason I ask is people can hear me just fine, but I can't hear well even with the volume turned all the way up as if you were raising the volume to listen to the radio/cd/xm.   I wear a full faced and even with that I am not getting enough volume out at 55mph to hear well at all.

The only other problem I am having is that I have to reboot the phone everytime I turn on the bike or turn it off before the bluetooth will work.  (what a pain)
