Acoustical pad inside fairing from J&M
« on: May 13, 2010, 12:19:24 AM »

I saw that someone posted about this stuff awhile back and there were only a few replies, of which one was going to wait to see what others have to say.  I just installed this in my fairing and it's an impressive difference.  It's just foam padding with a self-adhesive backing and it's cut to fit the inside of the outer fairing.  It's available for Batwing and RoadGlide fairings.  My front speakers really overpower my other 6 speakers now.  They have a significantly fuller sound and much better bass.  You can actually feel the difference if you put you hand in front of one of the speakers and turn up the volume.  You'll feel how much air is being pushed out.  It's like a light breeze coming out of your speakers...MUCH more so than before I installed it.  I shopped it around on the internet and direct from J&M looks like the best deal since everyone seems to be selling it for about the same price and J&M offers free shipping for orders over $30.  Cost was $36.99.  When you put the outer fairing back on, the pad is pretty tight up against the rear of the speaker, so the fact that it comes in 2 pieces, one for each side and none in the middle, works fine.  I would have to say that this would improve the performance of whatever speakers you are using in the fairing.  Here's the link:  http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=FSAP-HDCL&PF=43

There used to be a product called Dynamat (I think) back when I was younger and was into car stereo.  You put it your car panels to dampen the sound, worked really good and had siginficant improvment on the overall sound.  Good info on the J&M, looks like it will do similar for the bike application.

I purchased mine from www.sierra-mc.com here in Ohio.

The only down to it I can see is that the range of my garage door opener seems less.  May cut out a small area areound the opener the next time the fairing is off.

I just installed a hawgwired amp system and Justin at hawgwired suggested dynamat for inside the fairing.  I was instructed to put a 6 inch square piece on the inside of the fairing directly behind the speaker and  1  8 inch square piece right above the headlight. I was able to purchase this material through a local auto restoration and custom paint shop alot of street rodders use it.

One the J&M website, they show the pad is included with the new speakers, so if you are upgrading you will get it with the new speakers.

yes , you get the 'pad' with the kit.  but took more time to peel the backing off than to stick it though.. :confused5:
