Suffolk VA calling...
« on: May 30, 2010, 12:02:21 PM »

Yep, been here for a couple of years and decided it was time to intro myself to the group.  I currently own a 05' Road King Classic that has been mine since new.  I don't think I'll ever get rid of it willingly.  But I have been getting the itch for a couple of years now for a Luxury Touring bike to add to the stable.  I am not really a Harley die-hard.  I just like riding.
It has been a tough decision on what to buy.  I know that the only real choice is the CVO Ultra.  I would have been there a couple of years ago if it had not been for the 110 engine problems.  I have considered the BMW K1200LT, Goldwing, Vision, and of course the CVO Ultra.  They all have their pluses and minuses, and I have come to the conclusion that the analytical approach doesn't work.  It really depends on what gets your heart going.  For me, analytically, of the four, the Goldwing is probably the better all around.  That pissed me off.  What knocks the CVO out of first was the engine problems, work to the engine to get cooled down, and cost for purchase and fixes.  The Goldwing is good out of the box.  My heart still says Harley!

Anyway I am here to finalize my thoughts and form relationships, and get honest opinions on the way ahead.  Honest opinions from a CVO Forum???  At least you know where I want to go!

Thanks!!
Brad

Welcome to the site from Alabama, I personally bought an 06 FLHTCUSE.  Yes it is used but all the motor work was done and I got it for $16,000 and one year extended warranty.  That was in November of 09.  Probably will never part with it but will some day add a newer one once all the bugs are out of them.

Good to see you coming out of the "lurker closet" and making yourself known.  :2vrolijk_21:  As far as what bike to go with, like Gary said, go with your heart and your wallet will follow.  The 110 engine issues have been taken care of, it's just a matter of getting the restrictive EPA requirements "tweeked" out to get the bike to run cooler.  You can get by initial heat issues with a CVO and a minimal out of the box expense with just getting rid of the cat and getting the AFR lowered.  Most, if not all have done at least that.  I have two 110 CVOs and love them both.  My Ultra is an '07 which had the engine problems, but it appears that has been fixed...both bikes run great and I would buy either of them again.  Whatever choice you make, it will be the right one for you. :)

Welcome aboard from Minnesota! Glad you've joined the fun. If it were my money and I had to add a touring bike to the stable, it would be the BMW. I would be interested in knowing why you think the Gold Wing is a better tourer than a BMW?

Hello from a fellow Virginian!
I live in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. I agree with the others that say buy what makes you feel good. If not you will feel like you had to settle for whatever.
I have owned a Goldwing years ago and loved it for the dependability but to me that's what it was "just dependable transportation" without much soul.It was so quiet and subdued I felt invisible on the road.
The Harleys I have owned have had a "more spirit"  feeling to them yet like owning an old hot rod that needs tuneups etc. The Harleys seem to get noticed more by cars/trucks or even pedestrians so I don't feel as invisible as on the Goldwing. Yet I still ride defensively and don't take things for granted.

It for me came down to: Do I want to ride just a motorcycle or do I want to be passionate about riding a motorcycle. Welcome to the Forum from Indy! My thanks to all the Veterans both alive and fallen for serving our country, Happy Memorial Day!
