CVO Pet Peeve
« on: January 19, 2011, 08:31:57 PM »

CVO owners are just a little more cautious and anal with our machines than some of the other Harley or non Harley owners.

What is your pet peeve ??????????

Last weekend we rode to a local hamburger / motorcycle joint..a guy came in riding a Honda 750 painted John Deere green with 16'' re-bar foot pegs welded to the frame.

The jerk put the stand down right on top of my bike!! I couldn't up right mine without moving his first.

The issue was, he had 40 acres to park, and plenty of room over by the dumpster:  Short tempers, red necks and alcohol got involved, police were called and the rest is history.

He was parked so close you couldn't stand your back up?

My pet CVO peeve is thread titles so obscure you got no idea what it's about without wasting time to look.

Or BSRs in bras.  Yeah, that's probably it.

Or...

No, it's one of those.

A few years ago we came out of a Timmy's and my bud's bike had a father taking pics of his 2 kids ON the bike...it was just a Suzi and it wasn't parked where he could see it from inside....but it could happen to a nice bike too!

In hindsite, he had thought of 'mounting' the guy's wife...fair is fair!

 CVO Pet Peeve ?

I ride into work this morning (4:00 am) , park the bike right up front, I park in the middle of the parking spot so not to be hit by doors and other such things. I just happen to be walking near where i parked the bike so i peak around a corner just to take a glance at Ziggy (my bikes name) .

I could not believe my eyes, a Gardner has a leaf blower near my bike and just blowing dirt, leaves, all around crap directly on my bike, not just a little bit, just blowing that chit all over it. I raise both my arms in the air and say "wtf". then all of a sudden another Gardner comes from around the other side of a car and starts blown chit all over the place. The guy sticks his index finger in the air ( he's got a great idea).

He walk closer to the bike an starts blowing the bike off. At this point I'm about to scream NO, but i turned and walked away, i go into the bathroom and throw water on my face.  I come out to see some differant guy standing there, thinking this might be a supervisor of some sores i walk up and ask. "you the patton" (boss) . He says no, I just kinda turn and start to walk away when he says " there not hurting your bike" , I said " you have got to be kidding" I could not believe he was serious.

I said something like " at least you could be a little more carefull" . Now here is the clincher , he tells me " If you didn't want us to blow dirt on your bike, you shouldn't of rode it in today" .  I almost punched him right there, I swear to you I have never held myself back that hard. This world has changed a lot from the day of respect others.

I get a ribbing about not always having a clean bike but this is just wrong !

Marty,
I learned something many years ago about people. Most just don't care about the results
of their actions.
I used to carry 16 penny nails in my handlebar bag. I would use them on the tires of the non-carring, it's all about me, I'm in a hurry and you don't count, Azzholes. Just put one in front and one in back of each of their tires. Made me warm and fuzzy all over!  :o

It may be hilarious to you but I and many others take pride in our bikes and don't appreciate it when some inconsiderate dumb ass parks so close to our bike that we can't move without moving theirs first.

My pet peeve are people who think there chit don't stink. It really irritates me that people fly off the handle so easy when they think they have been intentionally wronged by someone who has no idea what they have done. Where has civility went? I feel your pain Marty....

When I first got my promotion and moved to a differnt plant, I experienced the same thing.... it took me one conversation to get the team to either come to my office and let me know they are going to be blowing or weedeating... simple.. a tiny bit of courtesy... wow what a concept.

I have always respected others things, you just don't touch somebody’s car, bike, anything. It is not a matter of civility but common courtesy, if it’s not yours, don’t touch. You don't go putting your kids in a Lambo just because they have the roof open, the same should hold true for a motorcycle.
I am not anywhere near as picky about my bike as some on this list but keep your grubs off of it, I will wash it when I am ready and if it has a scratch I want to be able to tell you how it got there. In this country of the PC it is now considered rude to demand courtesy, I disagree with that, I treat people with respect which includes their possessions, but I also demand that same treatment from others.

:2vrolijk_21:  And if my bike is dirty....I certainly don't want some half wrapped nit wit scratching the clear coat by rubbing the dirt in.  But as I've learned in life.....some people have a fair amount of common sense and some have a little.  Then there are those............that don't have a lick of common sense.

 Marty

 The saga continues  :zroflmao:

So one of the wussy azz saleman (stockbroker) decides he's going to buy an 04 fatboy (nice bike  :2vrolijk_21:)  that a big wig customer wants to get rid of. The saleman trailers it from Pasadena (maybe 20 miles away) to his house . He tells me he's goin to ride it into work (3 miles) today so I can check it out . I take a look this morning and asked if i can ride it (5:30 am). Parking lot is almost empty and I start riding like a pro, circles, first one way then another. Mark would be proud , then I rip up the parking lot, up one side then down the other. I laugh, told him "nice bike", come inside the office and go back to work. About a half an hour later some guy comes into the office and starts ripping into the people at the front of the office, saying " who the Hail was riding that loud azz harley this morning and woke me up. Then started threatening everybody, I mean anybody that was in sight.

Now the fun begins, I can't wait for the building mgmt to start with me.

All I'm going to say is " blow some more dirt on my bike"

This thread is hay'larious !!!!!

Sooo... i takes mah bike to the stealer for a radio problem. I just finished a long ride and it was all dirt N bugs and i am thinkin', Hey, they wash the thing when i bring it in. When i get there to pick it up they roll it out and lo and behold, I can barely see through the (previously unscratched) windshield from all the scratches. I says WTF? did you do to my windshield? The service manager, thats right, service manager says all we did was clean your bike like we do all bikes. Well of course i am about to explode. Now he accuses me of bringing the bike in with the windshield that way !!!!!!! OMFG! Now i am walking around the bike looking at the paint ...... i won't say here what i said there !!!!!
I find out that the "way they clean" is with a spray can of "safe" cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Now we ALL know what bugs and a rag do to the clear coat! Needless to say, calm, cool, collected and unferturbed i was not.
The end result is, i made them buy me a new windshield and install it. Completely polish and detail the bike. Promiss me they would learn from the disaster and......... i will never go there again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My CVO Pet Peeve ....... Idiots that have no clue how to treat a $30,000 motorcycle. Or any motorcycle for that matter!

I have a real CVO pet peeve........Molly!  When it's raining out and she has to go pee, she'll bolt through the doggie door in the kitchen, out to the garage.  But she doesn't go out the garage doggie door......she pees in the garage. >:(  Fortunately, she's more organized than some.......she goes the same place every time.  :2vrolijk_21:

Patriotic has to do with how i represent myself as an AMERICAN. This is the last thing i will say to this post so as to not get mahself banned cause i happen to like it here.

Hey stroked did you know your stero in your bike is not made in the USA so it prob will not even play patriotic (USA) music anyway. A 30,000 dollar motorsickle with a radio that will not work now that is unAmerican for sure. Mine not working right either but I am going to pull mine out and send it to the tech and get it looked at this way they cannot scratch my windshield. Just Sayin

The cig butt is why I wear full face. Along with watching a buddy of mine capture a hornet with his face. :)

My personal peeve? Early mornings. Taffic is slow, and someone the a$$ goblin in front of you decides dumping his coffee out the window at 30 is somehow ok.

If he did that to a couple of guys in our group, he would have been dropped.

We had all we could do to keep a guy from dropping a pool boy, because he placed some clothing on or near a trash can.
We had to explain that we did not have enough money to get out of jail. (took 3 of us)

The cure for the leaf blower idiots, jerk on the bike who parked too close, bozo service manager and clowns who scratch, dent, or throw cigarette butts at your bike is simple. Whack em in the collar bones with a ball peen hammer. Complete satisifaction will be granted, just walk away before the cops get there, and have no witnesses.hahaha.

Yesterday I got in a quick ride during the lunch hour and fearing rain later I headed to the house. And AGAIN the guy in the truck in front of me sprays the windshield cleaner. He knew I was there so it was on purpose to be mean or so ignorant and stupid that he never thought it would impact the biker. Either way he is a poor specimen of a human being.

Oh I could  have taken the bike to the office since it did not rain till after I got home. SOB it was a biggun! What a storm! Knoxville utilities had 60% of the total population out of power and up to a week to get everybody back on line

Little insight back - you are certainly entitled to your laissez-faire attitude on the subject, but suggesting folks have to put up with strangers mounting their bikes, inconsiderate jackasses soiling and/or scratching them, or anyone otherwise them causing harm, purposely or not, somehow makes you a real biker is just retarded thinking. Imho, if you don't give a crap about your chit, that's your business, and it's fine with me, but please dispense with the manliness crap, OK?

Well on a more light hearted vein I hove found that some things are more humorous after a period of time. I do care if my bike gets dirty and there is an initial irritation but in the big scheme of life it's a small matter to be laughed at later. ;D

Imho, if you don't give a crap about your chit, that's your business, and it's fine with me, but please dispense with the manliness crap, OK?.....

You make some interesting assumptions.........and they're funny too.... 8)

I have no pet peeves. My peeves cannot be domesticated.

Hey Jim?  Where do I find my peeve?  I really don't want any more pets.  But if I had one and didn't know it for darn sure wouldn't want a feral peeve.  So hope it could be domesticated.  I'm all for keeping the pets clean though.  Do my best to get the dog to stick his head out the window everytime the car in front uses its windshield washers as it's a free bath for the mutt and it's funny because the stupid dog can't figure out where the light rain shower is coming from.

But back to the peeve....  If I had two (or more) would they be peeves or peevers or peevii or just a hell of a mess of peeve?  Am really worried about this now that you brought it up.  Concerned the ASPCP will show up and get me when I didn't even know I had them.  And if it's not a pet after all ain't no way some animal cop is going to do a short arm inspection to see if my peeve is ok (unless she's cute).

A flying peeve hit the windshield of my bike.....just after spending eight hours polishing it (the bike)......I didn't know what to do.......
It was so distressing........felt like crying, but was able to hold back the tears long enough to post here........
No one told me that being a motorcyclist was so difficult.........now I know!

So is Pudknocker.  That's my mom's cat.  Her other cat is named Dog.  Still like mine best though.  Lincoln Garfield McKinley.  There's something all warm and fuzzy about a cat named after all the assassinated Presidents for whom the fact of their assassination didn't unwarrantedly raise their historical standing.  Maybe the next one will be Peeve Firedood Naitram Magoo to be named after other great leaders?

Marty, Here on the south side of the Right Coast we would have eliminated the problem a year and a half ago. They make good alligator bait.Maybe you could stop by after Ribfest and pick up a couple gators to take care of the gardner problem. I would ship you a couple but that is illegal.

Marty

Hey Marty, I've had the same problem here at Stanford.  I caught one of the Gardner’s literally blowing dirt on my XJR, purposely.  I yelled at him, because of the noise and asked him WTF did he think he was doing????  He yelled back, "don't talk to me that way".  He denied he was doing it on purpose, but I told him he was and if I caught him doing it again, I’d make sure he was fired. Previously, I had noticed the days they came to clear the parking lots our cars were covered with debris.  We have lots of trees.  Not too many days after, I went out to get on my bike and the same thing.  These were deliberate actions.

I contacted their supervisor and informed them if it happened again I was filing a formal complaint and would bring in an attorney.  As it was, I had to rub out the micro scratches in my used-to-be perfect paint on both vehicles.
They’re more careful now.  But I’m watching. @holes.

There is a certain element of jealousy involved in these situations.  Kudos Marty, I’m not sure I’d have been able to not take the blower and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine when he flipped me off.

So, do they live nearby, or was that some other neighbor?  If it was the Gardener, I’d be out there every morning a 05:30 doing my practice sessions….har!

I think this would qualify for most anyone.
Younger Brother, BB, parked his SERG in front of a store next to my SERK.
Once we were in the Store, BB looked out and some passing mother had let her kids take turns climbing on his SERG.

Marty,
I learned something many years ago about people.

Hey I know I'm late to respond to this particular post but here goes anyway...

Yesterday I rode about a hundred miles to see a friend I hadn't seen in 40 years.  We met at a popular little country buffet in a small town.  It was Sunday right at noon.

I arrived earlier than his group and I parked the bike with plenty of room on either side.  As I waited on the porch the time went by and the lot filled with cars.  Soon a big white SUV pulled in and parked to the left of my bike, within a foot or 2 within "door swing" distance.  Too close for me.  It made me real nervous and a bit mad.  Then all of a sudden another big SUV comes into the lot and parks on the other side of my bike.  Yep, just as close.

Now I was mad.  How could those inconsiderate bastards box me in like that with me sitting right there watching?  They must have been trying to piss me off on purpose.

One door opens and out climbs a little old lady who proceeds to use her walker to go around and help her husband out, also with a walker.  He's got a WW2 vet cap on and an arm full of vintage tatoos.  The other cars doors open and out comes another pair of old timers, again a ballcap, this one from Vietnam.  As they hobble onto the porch they all smile, nod and greet me.  They all pause to ask me where I'm from and how I'm doing.  All fresh from church services and happy to be alive on a beautiful day.

My anger vanished.  My gratitude for the old guy's service was expressed and I felt ashamed for having bad thoughts in the first place.  As we talked about my bike it became apparentr they had no idea they had parked too close.  As soon as I told 'em it makes us nervouse when cars (moving or not) get too close they immediately apologized and offered to move their cars.  No need now that you see it I said as I hoped they would be careful backing out.  Lesson learned: Non-bikers don't have a clue about our conventions, unspoked rules, and safety zones.

Brings us back to whether or not someone is trying to piss us off or just doesn't know any better.  The guy on the bike that parked too close may have been trying to line up so the max bikes could use the space, like you do at rallies.  I've been to events many times where you barely have a half inch or less once you get yours stood up.  I've been blocked before but I'm sure the other guy just underestimated how much room I would need to stand it up.  Heck, I've done it myself.

Glad I didn't put nails out this Sunday.

Great reply Sledge...but, I think the thing that is the real issue is that most don't view our motorcycles as anything 'special' like we do.  Just as people will open car doors into a car next to them and not think that they're doing anything wrong.  They don't value the car's appearance and therefore a scratch or small dent is nothing more than a bug on the windshield.  Just as some on this site can't understand why others want to keep the bike detailed & spotlessly clean....they view it more as a tool than a piece of art.  We're all different....but,  should respect ea. other.  spyder
