It's a sad day in Augusta....
Saturday night J D Paugh, a Richmond County motor officer, was heading home after finishing his shift. He noticed a car parked in the grass off of I-520 and pulled over to see if they needed help. The driver immediately opened fire with an M-4 and the first shot hit J D before he got his kickstand down. J D was hit a total of nine times. JD returned fire twice hitting the driver in the left shoulder before his pistol was hit and disabled by a shot from the M-4.
The shooter, Christopher Hodges, was in the Tennessee National Guard and was stationed at nearby Fort Gordon. His girlfriend was in the car and said the shooter was drunk and they were arguing when J D pulled up. Over forty shots were fired before Hodges took his own life.
JD's funeral is today and will be attended by all local MC clubs, the Patriot Guard and many police departments.
RIP J D
