My Day at the Dealer
« on: September 21, 2006, 05:58:23 PM »

Well went to drop off my bike this morning to have the rear tire replaced and check the brakes.I get a call this afternoon and the service manager informs me that I have a rock imbedded in the side of the belt and it must be replaced. Well I guess its better to find out now then on the road enroute to MV.So while they had the bike apart I decided to have them install a chrome inner primary. When life serves you lemons you got to make lemonade.Well I have a new Kuryakyn inner primary cover for sale. So new belt, tire and more bling.MV here I come [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Later,Q

Bad that you had to replace the belt, but GOOD  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] that you got the chrome inner...really sets the bike off, IMO...and, it's easy to keep clean too!  You should be good to go for the MV ride..looking forward to meeting you!

Oh D00d, tell it is isn't so man!  Not you?  Of all people!!  Missing a perfect BO (bling opportunity) that can be justified and rationalized by saving labor at the same time?  Wouldn't have beleived it if I hadn't read it with my own two eyes.  You were my hero man.  The D00d of Bling (DoB) we all aspired to be!  And you let us down.  That does it, I gotta go cry now......

All kidding aside they are pretty pricey Q.  If I remember correctly like $425.00 or so.  But if you want it and can't or don't want to install it yourself it'll be off in their hands for the primary change.  So you're saving a fair chunk of labor to do it while it's apart.

Hey Q, there's no comparison between the cover and the actual inner primary chromed, is there?  Big difference.  Some covers look ok, but that's one piece that calls out to be chromed instead of covered.  It's still on my 'to do' list on the '04.  Finally got one on the '94'.  ::) har!  spyder

Well Gary, you know what you're going to have to do now.  Sneak out some evening and cut halfway through the drive belt with an old rusty pocket knife so you can explain to everyone that you got the starter while it was apart anyway for a necessary belt change.

Missed the primary change opportunity.  I'm really just sad.  The King of Bling, The Max of Wax, The Sultan of Chrome; he let us down dudes.  He let us down......  :'( .

While the rear tire is off would be a great time to have a chrome floating rear rotor put on to match the ones on your front wheel. Bet FireDood doesn't even have one of those!!!

Entirely separate issue but we're all a bunch of masochists (perhaps not a separate issue after all come to think of it).  Start out after the simple little chore of a new tire.  We all know bike tires are horrendously expensive low mileage lifespan donuts that we all too regularly get raped on compared to any other kind of tire on the market.

So the man starts out with a tire that's not even a radial that would cost $39.99 on a Honda, needs a belt too, and opts for a small bit of bling in the process.  At the end of the day the ship ends up with a bill over a grand.  We are not sane; none of us.

Add me to the DA list...got the chrome inner, but somehow just couldn't justify the starter on a brand new scooter.  Now, how long do these damn belts last?

BD...the chrome inner is something you will never regret....really makes a difference in how the engine looks....it begs for it!!

Yeah, D00d, but the MoCo says it won't fit our bikes (SEEGs) ...  that it's for Dynas or some others, but, they're wrong!  I've been running one for a year now and I think it was 2lane that was 1st to discover that it would fit.  So, break out some of the stash and run on down there and get w/ the program, D00d!!!!  8-)  har!  [smiley=drink.gif] spyder

Now tell me more, does the tank have to be lifted/removed. Don't just tell me it's simple w/o giving me the steps. :)

You put your left foot in, you put your left foot out, then reach out and grab the fuel line and you squeeze it all about.  Release it on one end and release it on the other, it is so very simple can't believe you haven't bothered.

Oh chit, another one of them "small" hand jobs (oops did I say that :o). When we get to MV you'll understand probably why I don't have this installed along w/the plug wires. :'( Now that I've changed horn covers more then likely I'll have to take it off, but I'm going to look at this for sure now knowing how simple it is. Thanks. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=pumpkin.gif]

As I recall the d00derator was going to be the one in the lounge chair, although I'm sure he'd share some of his beer [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] ;D [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=drink.gif]

Yes, he was, during detailing lessons.  But for this job I get the lounge.  After all, D00d wouldn't let anyone else touch his bike  :-? .

And even if he would, well, screw it, we'll both talk someone else through the steps and get roasted together.

Ok, I have to admit to have actually made the mistake of thinking about this one.  Have totally flummoxed myself now too.  Three (actually five, but that would be embarassing to admit) separate responses.  All too bizarre, gross, or potentially illegal to print.  One of them even had (I think) a quadruple entendre!  But it was the sickest one of all when you stopped to think about it for a second.  Now it's D00d's fault that I'm really depressed.  A guy just has to go with the flow here.  Stop to think about it and you're just hosed.....  (and you catch a headache too)

I learned on these hijacks to simply cover the keyboard in saran wrap and it saves a lot of trouble.

Q.....good thing that was caught before you left for MV, bro!  Looks like that could have caused some damage to the sprocket...if so, did you replace it with some stealth chrome?  I'll be checking my belt closely when I do the 5K this weekend.
