My S&S 650 lift spring rear exhaust Beehive valve spring broke with less than 500 miles. Shop installed roller rockers with a S&S 600 cam. Now I read it's a common problem. Are Fueling beehive Springs any better? This is a touring motor. I want to replace all springs and whatever else is broken. I just need to know who has the best beehive Springs. Not satisfied with S&S Springs. Thanks

Try a dual spring or conical

I have considered that but its harder on valve/seats and lifter life. My FXR4 V111 has over 65k miles with a 585 cam no issues. This cam is is 600 lift, neither came have fast ramps.

nothing is harder on valves than a broken spring.... :nixweiss:

Most places selling springs don't actually make the springs, they just buy them from a manufacturer and put their own name on them. So good luck trying to figure out if Brand A is any better than Brand B or Brand C.
We've seen a lot of posts in the past year or so concerning broken beehive springs, so what happened to you is not unique. You may want to reconsider the idea of dual springs. They can also break, but usually when they do it's only one of the two springs which can limit the damage to the rest of the engine. If you match the actual spring rate to your build and don't use excessive spring pressure, you shouldn't see a big difference in lifter problems.

Ok thanks, I couldn't find dual springs in S&S pdf for the V124 motor, only beehive type. Harley is Harley issues with their S.E. beehive Springs on the M8.
I am considering Fueling Springs more expensive than S&S, Manly and others. More expensive doesn't always equal better in some cases. Hopefully the head is good. Valve guides can be replaced. Hope it didn't crack the head around the guide. This week my shop plans to remove both heads and cylinders.
Do you think it damaged any pushrods or lifters? I may have him open camchest anyway. Dam.

Piston will be replaced if I can get a single if not I will replace the set

That's an old wives tale. Use AV&V or Kibblewhite dual springs, set up properly, and you will do yourself a big favor.
