3rd gear skipping out
« on: August 04, 2020, 09:39:03 PM »

Confusing issue with my 07 ultra classic, shifting into 3rd it slips out under power, but will stay in gear with no pressure or when decelerating, the bike has 61000 miles on it, what do you guys recommend? Should I just replace the dog gears? Or upgrade the transmission with Baker parts?

Not a screaming Eagle but still stock. 3rd gear grinds when its in and accelerating, deceleration it stays in gear? Anyone with suggestions?

You will need to pull the gearset out and inspect it. Could be a bent shift fork, bad bearings, or bad dogs on the gears. After inspection and depending on damage then decide how best to fix it.

Mine was "skipping" in 3rd at around 4800 RPM at 70K while all other gears worked perfect. Ended up needing to rebuild tranny

You will most likely find a very well worn shift fork and the related parts that it's involved with.

In 2007 Harley started making thier Mainshafts
With several gears on each of the two shafts to save money. The shafts and gears are not as Hard as the 2006 and earlier. They have a high failure rate vs the earlier separate shafts and gears.
