To Profile or Not To...........
« on: August 15, 2006, 09:42:42 AM »

To ensure we Americans never offend anyone -- particularly  fanatics intent on killing us -- law enforcement and security  screeners are not allowed to "profile" people in public places or  security checkpoints. However, they will continue to perform  random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots  with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members  of the President's security detail, 85-year-old congressmen with  metal hips and even Medal of Honor recipients. But targeting  Middle Eastern male Islamists between the ages 17 and 40  constitutes "ethnic profiling."

Since the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom, more than 2,500  Americans have been murdered by terrorists. 35,000 Iraqi men,  women and children have also been murdered by terrorists. Most of  the combat and civilians casualties were the result of bombs  detonated in civilian population centers by: (a) Fruit vendors in  Baghdad (b) Disgruntled transit union workers (c) Iraqi  schoolteachers (d) Middle Eastern Islamist males between the ages  of 17 and 40.

The preservation of individual rights has always been a mainstay of American society. However, the protection of the individual right should not come at the cost of the rights  of the many ( otherwise known as the majority as we observe in a democratic society).  While the ACLU might try to hide behind the cover of terrorism as a crime and therefore profiling should be illegal, as a means to proctect the individual right, the reality is terrorism not just a crime it is an act of war.  The last time I check constitutionally the federal government has as one its main purposes to protect for the common defense. So, if a certain segment of the population ( US, global, or otherwise) has declared "holy war" on our culture, and profiling is a means for our government to help ensure for our protection why would we not allow it? Anyway, my two cents for what it is worth, John

Thankfully, no one, including the ACLU can legislate or moralize the thoughts that each of us have.  Regardless of legislation or political correctness career law enforcement, federal agents, intelligence services and concerned citizens will continue to "profile" as a matter of doing what's right to help in this war.  Personally, I know of no one on the state or federal level that really gives a chit about the anti-profiling expounded by the left and liberal media.

It may not be politically correct in this venue, but I think profiling is NOT the answer.

I think we need to arm every American.  Not the this-american's and that-american's, just all the Americans. And then I think we need to open the season.

That's how I made it through college!!! Always select "D" on a multiple choice test when you aren't sure of the correct answer. Always works for me. ;D ;D ;D
