Crash Sequence - WERA - 10 AUG 08 - AM#800 & AM#176
« on: August 10, 2008, 09:22:02 PM »

If you're gonna crash ... well, ya might as well get it on film ...

Happened right in front of me today at Summit Point Motorsports park in West Virginia. Same turn I drove off in 2 months ago trying to avoid the "bad pavement".

These are two of the toughest dudes I've ever seen ... AM#800 & AM#176.

The ripped up pavement in Turn 1 of Summit Point Main Course played a part in this crash. It was pretty dramatic. I thought sure there were some serious injuries. They both shook hands in the end as they left back for the paddock.  I have a feeling they are both hurt a bit. Hope they really are "all good" and no trips to the doctor are required.

God bless, y'all ... that was pretty hairy.

The stills and the sequential imagery made it look much worse than the full motion video did.  Both looked hairy though.  Great shots though it sucked the guys went down.

Believe it or not ... the guy in the red seemed to be mostly fine.  The guy in the blue hit his head and they were little worried about him.  You'll see he had to sit down in the video.  The guy that got run over was mostly ok after about 3 minutes.  Both guys turned down the ambulance and rode back to their pits in the back of the "crash truck".

I bet they are both hurtin units tomorrow morning.

I slowed the video down another 30% in this clip.

You can clearly see the adverse impact of the bumps on the front tire. It comes off the ground several times.

http://www.magicratvideos.com/magicvideos/video/Bumps/Bumps.html

The rear tire is doing the same.

how did the track get so rough?

That is a topic of HUGE debate on the race / trackday forums.  It was paved on 8 OCT 2007 (less than a year ago) ... and they were running cars on it within 5 days ... so ... lotta folks say that they didn't let it cure long enough.  BUT, it could have been a lot of things.  Really a sore subject on those forums.

Bottom line is that everybody just wants them to fix it.  Supposedly, that will happen any day now (fingers crossed).  Weather apparently has not been cooperating ....

Some are ...

But, if you boycott ... and the others don't ... you lose standings ...
