I traded an 06 cuse for a plain old vanilla o7 ultra. I got 24k the dealer wrote a check fo the balance. Was just at the dealer the bike is on the way to Indiana from MA. I just wanted to make a comment on Harleys holding their value. I don't know how many other brands you had to pay x amount OVER Msrp but I think that is where some of the false value came from. When you can negotiate a price under MSRP  initially then the depreciation is on line. If you paid too much at the get go then it's a problem. Overall the CVO is the best value even ehen it comes to Blue Book. If I throw some of the regular chrome crap on the plain old vanilla Ultra it never becomes part of the book value. The smoke is going to clear soon and I bet there will be some competition between dealers to actually have to sell bikes instead of order taking.I hope I am around when some of these dealers that are 2k over MSRP actually have to sell at or under.
The dealers that were gouging prices sure won't see me . I do not want to  forget their uppitty attitudes..

I think that there's been a big change just since '02.  The snobby attitude that I got at my local dealer in August of 2002 led me to buy my first bike in 30 years and it was a Honda VTX1800C.  I got into the 100th anniversary thing in '03 and bought a Road King Classic from an MSRP dealer.  The same dealer that I thought of as snobby in '02 has sold some bikes at $500.00 under MSRP (I know from friends that have made purchases).  They're still thowing some dollars over MSRP on CVOs, but it ain't like it used to be.

I've come to appreciate the folks at Bumpus and feel that I've got friends there.  I guess that a dealership has to make business decisions and we may not always agree with their decisions.  I don't agree with paying for "shop supplies."  They might as well charge for "office supplies" and "bathroom supplies."  Somehow I think you have to develop a relationship with a dealer and learn who to talk to and how to talk to them to get where you want to be on products and services.

I think a lot of dealers have had to go through attitude adjustments and price adjustments on standard bikes.  I can sort of understand how they continue to go over MSRP on CVOs.  If they are only going to get two of a particular bike and have a waiting list for folks that want them, why sell at MSRP.  I've talked to dealers that are anywhere from $3000.00 to $5000.00 over MSRP on CVO bikes.  They are asking those prices because someone will probably pay them.  I just don't plan on it being me.

Hey, I think the whole Harley thing is a love/hate kind of relationship, but we all seem to keep supporting the MOCO.  I've never had a dealer anywhere give me a HOG discount and I've asked.  Maybe the HOG discount is a thing of the past.

There was a thread about a year or so ago here where people were listing their dealers that gave a HOG discount. There were more that did than did not. That is when and where I found out Bumpus was in the minority of dealers that did not.

If someone could shed some light on the old thread, I'd be interested.  I have had some out of town dealers say that they'd give the discount to local HOG members only.

I did receive a mailing from Bumpus today with a coupon for $20 off of a $100 purchase.  It seems that they've been putting these out on a regular basis.

That is a good question, if the dealers give the discount to out of town HOG members.  would guess only to local members. To tell the truth, I think Bumpus will start showing a different attitude shortly, when the Daytona dealer opens his new building in Southaven. A friend saw the

Not sure how Bruce Rossmeyer opening a dealership close to anyone is going to force lower prices and discounts. I have been to Bumpus twice on my way here and there, and as far as customer service is concerned, they are very high on my list. Sorry to hear the locals do not feel the same. Anyway, Rossmyer's  Destination Daytona charges huge premiums, expects you to park a mile away, walk through swampy land to buy stuff at 110 to 150% of what other dealers offer. I think the Rossnyer business model works in an enviroment like Daytona where you get a huge amount of people with too much discretionary income in a state of buyer's fever during the Rally weeks and a lot of inexperienced buyers wowed by the glitz, but I fail to see how this will work in an area like Memphis where folks have common sense and are smart about their money. Or anywhere else for that matter. I live in San Diego. There are a lot of folks with a lot of money in Southern California and the Rossmyer model would bomb big time here. It would bomb in LA too where Bartel's rules. Am I somehow missing something ????

For those dealers that do give discount I believe that is the standard practice (for local H.O.G. members only). From what I understand it's payback to membership for supporting the dealer and his H.O.G. chapter. I've even seen some restrictions placed on how the discount is given such as attending H.O.G. meetings with in last 30 days, and another dealer only has discount on day of H.O.G. meeting for his members. These options are used to encourage participation in the local. As we all know by being part of any organization similar to this normally it's ten percent of the people doing majority of the work. Wonder if that's how they came up w/the 10% discount? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

You maybe right, I was just thinking that competition would bear fruit. Until now we had only one real dealer within 120 miles (I guess Little Rock, Ar). I suppose it could just be wishful thinking on my part. Oh well, I can dream.
