Screamin eagle back plate?
« on: March 29, 2020, 08:31:38 AM »

Can anyone tell me why this won't fit 2010 touring models?
Dealer parts guys just say sorry won't fit. That's what the books says.
It says it works on  other twin cams even on other twin cams in the 2010 model year.

All the 2010 models listed under the 2010 tab are Soft tails.

Different throttle body on ETC bikes?

:2vrolijk_21:   It has to do with the throttle bore size and the bolt pattern for attachment to the TB.  The 2008 and later Touring models come with a 50mm Electronic Throttle throttle body, this particular backing plate is for the bikes with the older 46mm TB.  The attachment is from the SE Catalog, the one I highlighted in yellow is the one that would fit your 2010.  Note it says it doesn't fit the CVO.  That is due to the fact that the CVO's came with the Ventilator style high flow air cleaner standard,  If you really want to remove the Ventilator, you could change to the older style round SE air cleaner, you would need to get the full kit and a cover.  Why change from the Ventilator?

Hi Jim,
Actually I don't own a CVO. I wish... I own a regular 2010 SG and have the standard SE backing plate.
I would like to run external breathers.
The style of backing
Plate I listed would be much easier to run the hose to a catch can than having to drill, tap and run fittings in my existing SE style plate.
I actually don't mind the work as much as the fact that on the one side where I would have to drill the backing plate the throttle body is so close to the backing plate stand off you have to angle the fitting at  to  clear the throttle body.
Leave me wondering how effective that side would be at drainage. Also, may look odd if the hoses aren't the same in I want to.run the air cleaner naked.
I want to run two catch cans. One for head head so I want them to hang in the same location below the air cleaner.

The standard air cleaner on a 2010 FLHX isn't an SE unit, it's the plastic air box style with a football shaped cover.  Is that what you have?  If so, you're probably correct that switching to the SE style backing plate would make installing external breather cans easier.  In fact you can find threads on the site showing how some people have done it.  As I noted previously, the SE plate you linked to in your first post is the style, but it is not the correct part number.  You would need the one I highlighted in my attachment to fit your 2010 Touring throttle body.

OK, so you already have the correct backing plate for a 2008 and up Touring model.  I misunderstood what you meant when you called it "standard".  It would have been easier to add fittings for external breather lines on the older style without the internal breather passages, but I'm sure someone on the site must have done it on a late model Twin Cam.  You might want to look at the backing plates offered by the aftermarket to see if one of those is made like the old style SE but fits a 2010 Touring model. :nixweiss:

Edit:  Take a look at this kit, you wouldn't probably need the kit since you want to run the lines differently but it illustrates the basic idea.  I've seen bikes set up like this, with fittings installed in holes drilled and tapped into the stand-offs, and I've seen some that used old style banjo fittings and longer breather bolts.  Where there is a will, there is always a way.
