Vance and Hines Power Duals
« on: January 15, 2009, 08:18:05 PM »

I see that these are now out, and listed on eBay, has anyone got a set yet, any dyno numbers?  I am thinking that they should get better numbers than the V&H Dresser Duals, any comments?? Thanks and God Bless!!

I have had them pre-ordered since December.  They have not arrived yet but when they do I will post the dyno results after I have had a chance to install them and remap the ECM. I am curious as well to see how much difference they will make.  Already have a dyno run from the current setup so there is something to compare to.

Installed sets on my '09 SE Road Glide and '09 SE Ultra after I had installed tuner, cams and stage 1 air kit. DISAPPOINTING RESULTS- only got 96 HP out of my Ultra! Changed it out to a Bub 2 into 1 with fake dual and increased HP to 109 with 116 lbs torque. Buyers need to be aware of the dissapointing results on HP with these pipes. They look terrific and sound good but very limited power increase if that is what you are after.

I'am confused...

Title says power duals....... In the post it says dresser duals.

Vance and Hines has both.  Just wondering which set is being talked about.

Thanks

My original question was about  VANCE AND HINES---POWER DUALS,, realizing that they just became avaliable, wondering if anyone has installed them yet? Not to be confused with V&H Dresser Duals, not interested in them, as I am sure that they will sacrifice low end torque, as any other true dual. Thanks everyone! :2vrolijk_21:

My power duals are suppose to arrive next week.  According to V&H the first run was at the chromer's. I will post some pics and Dyno numbers when available.

Hey Dave,
You KNOW that I will be waiting to hear the results!  Check's in the mail for the core bit.  I know have to decide which method of many I will use to do the drilling.  Jim Kerr's post is now more than 20 pages long!
Good luck with the new headers.

Torque you had the DRESSER duals or the POWER duals?  What cam did you use?
Any pictures of the duals on the bike, or maybe a dyno printout?

Mr D
The Power Duals I ordered finally came a week or so ago.  I have them installed and remapped the ECM.
Previous setup:
Bub 7 slipons with the CAT drilled and factory high flow air.
Dyno results:
90HP and 110TQ (6th gear run)
86HP and 105TQ (5th gear run)

Current setup:
Bub 7 slipons with the Vance and Hines Power Duals and factory high flow air.
Dyno results:
90HP and 107TQ (5th gear run)

Looks like it picked up 4 on the HP and 2 on the TQ. Didn't do a 6th gear run but looking at the 5th gear numbers probably 94HP and 112TQ as the 6th gear run increase would be almost identical to the 5th gear run increase.

Looks like they are worth the investment.

CVOSJOE,

Is this with the full cat drilled out - not cat at all as oppose to the partial drilling of the cat using a long drill bit.
If this is with the entire cat removed, this is the first indication that the Vance & Hines Power Duals actually create more power than the stock header with the cat fully removed.

This is with the CAT drilled (partially removed).  I have been keeping an eye on the posts and I haven't seen any dyno runs on a comparable setup with the CAT completely removed.  Do you have any dyno numbers for the 09 SERG with the factory high flow air filter, bub 7 slipons (or comparable) and the front pipe with no CAT?

Hello All,
I just got my 09 SE Ultra with Power Duals, Monster Ovals tuned with Master tuner, back from Horsepower Express and the report shows 103.7 Hp and 119.6 ft lbs of torque. The Torque curve looks fairly flat. The "butt" test confirmed that the fun factor went way up. I also had him tweak with the FBW throttle but I really didn't feel much difference (maybe mine started without much delay). Bike is a little louder than I was hoping but still much better that most. Overall I am happy. I did have one issue with the installation, it seems that the right side output exhaust tube was the same OD as the Monster Oval so it didn't fit properly. Quick call to V&H and a new one is on the way (4-days and counting). I was able to mount the muffler by using the other pipe as a "mandrel" and expanding it to fit (up to the cut away anyway). Looks great and NO MORE HEAT!

I ordered all of the Vance and Hines exhaust parts from M and M Cycles (manmcycles.com) they were fantastic and the pricing was great. Their pricing put these pipes in the same "price range" as most other pipes. Everything about the sale went as stated and with great follow up. These guys are my new parts house. The Master tuner I got from Horsepower Express with no great pricing but good tuning...

I put on the power duals, PC-V and Rush slip-ons with 2.50 baffles.  Attached is the Dyno sheet.  I am not impressed with the numbers  >:(.  I had better numbers on my 06 FLHX 97 hp and 104tq.  :1syellow1:  I am still getting all the heat.:sauer005:.  My SERG spent 3 days on the dyno and they put about 200 mile on it trying to get it right.  I am not happy at all with the performance :sauer055:  Now I have a hesitation when I first hit the throttle. The PC-V should work much better then it is.  I think the 2.50 Baffles are to big with the power duals.  I just ordered fullsac 2.00 baffles for the stock mufflers and then I am going to take my SERG to a different tuning center and see if I can get some better performance.

Doc,
Yea I know that Rush sells different baffles.  I started with 2.25 then went up to 2.50.  My right side pipe started bluing and turning gold after only 600 miles so I thought I would try the 2.50 I like the sound but I am not happy with the performance.

I like the way the stock mufflers look so I am going to go back to them with fullsac 2" baffles that will be here in two more day. :orange:

After talking with fullsac today I regret buying the PC-V.  If I would have talked to him before I ordered the PC-V I would have ordered the package deal he is offering with his baffles, tuner and download.  :2vrolijk_21:

Vance and Hines Power duals, Zippers Max Flow aircleaner and power commander added to my Ultra netted 92 HP and 107 torque. I am very pleased with the ride results. It just keeps pulling, just what I wanted

I have ordered the Vance & Hines Power Duals (16759) for my 2009 SERG. I will be using them with Rush slip ons with either 1.75" or 2" baffles. I plan to start with the 1.75" to see how it sounds.  If I increases the size it will probably be to the 2.0" on the right side only. That is what Rush recommends anyway since exhaust flows aren't evenly distributed with the 2009 type exhausts. I have waited to install this because I wanted to finish the break in on the motor, and I'm still waiting for the Thundermax auto tune ECU for the throttle by wire touring models to become available. Zippers has told me that they will begin shipping in June. I really can't see using a non-closed loop system, like the PCV, and a dyno tune. Dyno tuning is punishing to the motor, and only achieves results that wotk at that atmospheric pressure, that altitude, that intake temperature, and that exact setup etc.. After you've done it twice you've already spent more than the thundermax anyway. Its a no-brainer to use the closed loop system like the Thundermax. I'm a bit reluctant to try the Terry Components closed loop add-on system because it uses only the rear cylinder narrow band oxygen sensor. Its range of correction will be somewhat limited from the baseline HD map, and autotunes the front cylinder based on rear cylinder readings. The Thundermax claims a range of autotune up to 50% (although the recommended settings are limited to 20% overall with 5% per run cycle), and individually tunes each cylinder with wide range oxygen sensors. I'll let you know how it goes, and it will be based on real riding experience; Not dyno numbers. Isn't that what really matters? How it feels to ride the thing?

 8) 8) 8)

I agree.  Seems like the ability of a WB solution to tune is by far the best answer.  I had the ThunderMax on my 07 SE Ultra and it was wonderfull to ride.  Adjusted for temp, altitude, gas octane, humidity and other variables.  HD uses the NB O2 sensors to keep the steady throttle AFR between 14.2 and 14.7 (and thus appease the EPA).  My PC V with autotune and WB O2's is set to run 13.5 to 13.7 at steady throttle.  Bikes runs cooler and I have not had any reduction gas mileage (could be that it actually breathes better and thus runs better).

No dyno tuning, just did a one time pass for $40.00 bucks to see where I am.  95 hp and 108ft-lbs.  I'm making no changes.  Runs great at 14000 feet or 600.  In the thirties or in the high 90's.  With 93 octane or 89 in Colorado.  Absolutely no complaints.

A buddy has spent a small fortune on dyno tunes and has no more power or torque than my bike.  He put his bike into open loop to get the afr where he wants.

Just got my 09 SERG back yesterday, I had the  V&H Power Duels installed, SERT, Heavy Breather, SE slip ons and had it Dyno tuned. Not sure if my results are correct, a bit skeptical after reading others results and by reading on the site here that some Dyno's give higher readings to make us happy. My results are peak torque 124.5 at 3300 rpm, and peak HP 98.75 at 5300 rpm. Big difference in the seat. Feels like the power is very useable and in the range where I can enjoy it. Very happy with my results and sound.

It would be interesting to see your dyno chart, if you can post it on here. Sounds like you have a very healthy torque curve!

Those are actually pretty respectable numbers, if all you did was change the pipes and mufflers....I agree about the hesitation, but the numbers look good IMO.  Those are typical for the type mods you did.

 :o :o

I have had no issues with hesitation or heat with my PC V setup.  I agree that a different tuner might help.

Wolfman's dyno sheet

Just curious why Wolfman's dyno sheet for his '09 is dated July 11, 2006? :nixweiss:

I don't know why that date is there, was Dynotuned on Aug 11.

Is our stock air cleaner on the 09 SERG enough?  I thought it was a high flow air cleaner.

I've read on the site that it is high flow but the Heavy breather will pick up a little more power, 2-3 hp I think. The stock air filter is the ventilator.
