V&H Big Radius
« on: November 30, 2006, 08:39:03 PM »

Anyone have any experience w/ the Big Radius exhaust?  I don't need a big gain in performance.....but definately do not want to lose any.  I like the look of the BR and need more volume.  I will also have SERT installed on a '07 SE Dyna.

sorry about that earlier mis-post !!
V&H has introduced a big radius 2into1 for 07's with 2 O2 sensors avail in spring 07
my contact at V&H says it puts out more HP/Torque than the 2 into 2
they do sound good and have great quality control
Harley sold V&H and still does I believe
take a look at their web site for good pics and more info

I started with a Thunder Header, then got the Big Radius on my '04 SED. I've got a Power Commander, Stage 2, and SE Intake.

After this all, I had a dyno and custom map made by John Golden and ended up with a 1-2 increase in HP & TQ over stock. John felt that going to a nice 2 into 1 would help alot.

I figure the Big Radius probably costs a little bit in performance and the rest kind of the mods made up for it, but I really like the looks and sound. I'm happy.

I run them on my S.E. Fatboy and love the looks and sound, but they are fairly loud.  If you cruise easy at idle, no problem, but when you crack it they are loud.  You will sacrifice low end torque, however, will pull better from 3200 rpm up.  Buy a set of thunder monster baffles and you can get some low end torque back.

Street Stalker,

What other mods did you make?  Do you have SERT?

Thanks

Hi, I'm MOM ... I've had the VH Big Radius on my 06 Deuce with stock 88 CU in with download and airfilter.  I liked them so much I put them on my 07 SE Springer with SERT and high flow air filter.  The sound is Great; although the 110 engine definitely increased the loudness ... I asked Vance and Hines if they had a different baffle that would quiet it down some.  Their answer was no; however, they gave me the name of a company who makes a different baffle for it.  I'm keeping the current baffles in for now ... if neighbors complain I'll worry about it then.  I don't remember the name of the company they referred me to but you can contact Vance & Hines if interested.  Hope this helps.  GARY/TERESA'S MOM

Thanks alot Mom......Did you go with K&N air filter?   I have heard that the Big Radius will rob the low end torque.....did the SERT make up for that?

I'll defer your question to Mom but I believe she has the K&N air filter.  I havent ridden her bike with this set up but I can tell you she has no problems taking off in a flash.  She does have the SERT and her bike appears to have plenty of low end torque and HP.

I have a few other mods, but they do not apply to your bike.  My fuel controller is a power commander, and it needed a new map for the Big Radius.  If you really like low end torque, go with a 2-1 pipe.

V&H big radius  I have been looking at the new 2 into 1 big radius for my 07cvo springer. V&H claim great gains in HP and torque  but I have not seen any dyno charts Spoke with V&H this past week they will release the pipe in April ... hope I can wait ... skippy

Below is a copy of a post on V-Twin Forum made by "TroyL" from Orange County CA on 2-22-07. Troy owns a 2007 FXDSE and he loaned his bike to Vance & Hines so that they could test the new Big Radius 2 into 1 pipe on a SE Dyna 110 cid bike. Here is what he said:

"I held in my hands today a Big Radius 2-1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did the tour today at the Santa Fe Springs Street shop. It's actually a huge manufacturing complex with everything! Really great people!

Anyways, the pipe is awesome. We're walking by one area and the gal giving the tour points something or another to the left side as we walk by. I spotted one on a table in front of some office, so I scooted over there. It was the prototype they used for all the publicity. There weren't any header heat shields so I could still see the welds they left and there was a falsie baffle in, but it was HUGE! I haven't seen a Fatcat but this one looks bigger than the pics.

So, we get to the dyno room. They had just finished with my bike, so I didn't get to see it on the dyno, but I did get a chance to talk to two of the wrenches running the dyno. I've got a bunch of info, but the relevent stuff for this thread is:

BR 2-2 106ft/lbs and 93HP big low end flat spot
BR 2-1 110ft/lbs and 96HP perfect
2-1 Pro 109ft/lbs and 97HP very small low end flat spot
Python 2-1 (no baffle) 109ft/lbs and 96HP very small low end flat spot

They did these pipes with the appropriate FuelPak setting, all on my bike. They also verified that the BR 2-1 is quieter than the 2-1 Pro (by 1db)."

If you can how about some close ups of the mounting and heat shields as well as some bling angle photos.
