Title: Rear ended, hit and run style. Also, I hate people.
Post by: stratstrings on July 21, 2012, 03:09:16 PM
Some clown behind me at a stop light jumped the green and pushed me into the intersection.  Aside from some soreness, I'm fine.  But more importantly, the shop is telling me it may be up to 8 weeks for a new rear fender.  If anyone has a lead on a new fender for a '12 in satin pewter, give me a shout!

X2 on people in general.  Sorry for the damage, happy to see your OK.  Did the driver have insurance?

I'd pound it out and drive it until you can get a new replacement.  I looks like you could hide most of it with the seat and the sissy bar.

In your title, it says Hit and Run.  Did this jerk run? :confused5:  I hope not, but just wondering.  Glad you're okay.  :2vrolijk_21:

i would  try "Paintless Dent Repair"   I'll bet they can fix that alot cheaper then replacing the fender  .....  how do i know my car 2010 rav4  had many hail damage dings in hood to take out 20+ dings  was alot cheaper then a new hood

As I just purchased (3 days ago) the exact same bike......I TOTALLY FEEL FOR YOU!  Uugghh!  But glad you are OK.  What did the guy have to say for his actions?  Was he at least apologetic or did he somehow try to make it your fault?

Thanks for the replies.  I didn't get to chance to ask the jamoke much of anything.  He turned right and hauled ass right after he hit me.  The impact rung my bells a bit and I didn't even have the presence of mind to catch a plate number.  The estimate came back at just shy of $3,000 and insurance will be picking up the tab.  The person at claims said that it looked like I backed up too fast and ran into something.  I had to ask her if this was real life or if there are idiots running around in my dreams.  Her boss took it from there. . .

Does the intersection have a red light camera?  It would be on video then.

Maybe you should have asked her if she was aware that your bike doesn't have a reverse gear.  :o

That it what I was thinking.

If they ran then what are the chances they have any of the required insurance/license etc? You stay and say "My bad".....

Did this happen in NY or Oregon??? Your profile say Portland, Or, but you have a NY tag on the bike. In NY insurance is required, so maybe the guy that hit you didn't have any so that's why he ran.

I've just moved to Oregon from NY and insurance is required here as well.  No luck on the red light camera - I did ask the cop though.  I'm assuming he either didn't have insurance or had been drinking or some other sort of general douchebaggery.  There were witnesses but the only one that stopped long enough to talk to me didn't get a plate number either.  Bad deal all the way around.  I had to resort to riding my wife's sportster today.  A nice bike, but 1200 is a long way from 1800.

Sorry 'bout the 'mishap!....but, I like to get out on the Wife's Sporty once in a while...it's nimble and fun to toss around.
