Brad's bike came in today for a little make over. The initial plans are for a 18x5.5 fat tire front end. Front and rear fast up air ride. MRI center stand with OEM type switches in the fairing cap. All of Boom 2 audio stuff is coming out in favor of some Biketronics equipment. There will a few splashes of paint here and there. I'm sure there will be more as the build progresses.
-
Some orange pinstriping will be added to the rear fender.
-
The new front fender will be a wrap style. Instead of gloss black it'll be the black metallic color with the orange stripe. The lower legs will be a smooth version from American Suspension.
-
Tearing the bike down...
-
The fender is off and ready to go to paint.
-
The fairing is off an ready to start removing the Boom Audio 2 components.
-
18x5.5" Knockout style wheel.
-
Detail picture..

Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Ricks in Germany did this one.

cant wait to see this, if a guy wanted to fat tire his RG on the cheep what besides the rim, tire and fender would be required... sorry :jack:

Damn bro...you dug right in! Sent you some emails on chin spoiler.

I'll be ordering the Bad Dad chin spoiler, HD side covers, air ride switches, fork legs and stereo stuff today.

For an 18" fat tire that is all.
-
Do you plan on using the baddad chin spoiler with the chopped engine guard or changing the engine guard totally?

Brad likes the Bad Dad chin spoiler so I will cut it to go around the stock engine guard. I would like something taller that extends up to the fairing support. With the fat tire 18", no rake and dark colored bike we may be able to pull it off.
I ordered side covers today however I am rethinking my choice now. Most of the covers available look huge when used with stock bags and a non stretched tank. The rest of them are for stretched bags. There isn't a lot available that look proportioned with stock bags.
-
Thanks, I look forward to seeing your progress with that. I'm not sure I want Harley's version that they have on the 19's
.
-
Puzzled have you seen or used anything to protect the bottom outside edge of the stock CVO stretched bags to protect the paint against a drop?

The saddlebag guards work well. I have not seen a full length skid plate offered by anyone for OEM bags. A piece of 1/2" aluminum angle would bend easily to follow the contour of the bag. 1" would work better as it would have more surface area for tape/screws. I'd cut the face down to 1/2" and leave the bottom at 1".

I bought the guards but wish the had a "Comfort Profile" available like they did for the pre-'14 models.
I'm not crazy about the new design but as you said ... they work.
-
The parts are starting to arrive. Rear Dirty Air aluminum shocks, air compressor, air tank and VU2 air ride control valve.
-
MRI electric center stand.
-
American Suspension front air pistons, replacement springs and external travel limiters.

Up on the lift ready to go....

I have plenty to do this weekend. :2vrolijk_21:
-
Fitting the chin spoiler to the bike.
-
Notched for the engine guard.
-
I will be able to keep an even gap from top to bottom.
-
The top bolts through the lower bolt hole of the fairing support.
-
Random pic.
-
Air compressor mounted.
-
Air tank and control valve mounted.
-
There is about 1" of clearance.
-
Air ride switches for the fairing cap.
I started pulling the wires for the air ride system. The speaker grills from the fairing and bag lids have been removed. All four of the factory speakers are out. Next up is to take the gauge cluster housing off. This will allow me to get to the switches and fork tube caps.
-
Looks great so far Puzzled. Can you tell me which chin spoiler that is that you went with. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
-
Looking good. Looks like a nice switch set up.
-

The chin spoiler came from Mike at Detroit Choppers. It is for a non raked bike.
-
The Biketronics order showed up. A pair of Hertz Mille 6.5" for the front.
-
Biketronics supplies replacement grills with teeters wired in.
-
Hybrid Audio 5x7's for the rear. They require the OEM speaker basket to be cut out.
-
I cut just the basket portion out. When going with a 6x9 conversion you have to cut everything right down flush.
-
Biketronics supplies a nice aluminum adapter that requires no new holes in your lids.
-
Everything fits under the OEM lids.
-
Removal of the rear amp. The kit comes with an adapter that plugs into the amp harness. I am guessing this is done for the Canbus system.
-
Keep those stereo upgrade pics coming. I'm planning on doing a Biketronics upgrade myself with lower speakers as well. Will you be adding lowers to this project?
-
Dropping parts off to be painted....
-
Another wonderful creation in the making.
Can hardly wait to see the finished product, but Brad must be extremely anxious.

It's moving along... I don't see any reason that I won't have it done for Daytona.
-
Drilling the holes for the TP backrest pad.
-
A centerline to insure everything lines up.
The pad was sent out to Bux Customs Upholstry in Pottstown Pa to get matched to the seat.
-
I pulled the stock lower legs in favor of the 180x18 shaved PM legs.
-
Installing the fork seals with the correct tool took only second's.
-
Any updates on this build Mike?
-
We're waiting on the painter, upholster, powder coater.....
I have a day or so of wiring and plumbing to do which I'll get to here shortly.
Assembly will go quick.
-
Cool :2vrolijk_21:
-
I spent some time working on the bike today. Not much was picture worthy as I ran wires and air line.
I installed an air line safety switch. This setup is used to open the air lines when the bike is parked. This will prevent the bike from airing up if someone were to hit the switches or if air creeped past the valve. I've seen bikes fall over when air creeped past the valve while parked.
-
A simple manual open/close type valve.
-
I started making the harness for the front and rear air ride switches as well as for the center stand. I color matched the switch harness and added connectors that run to the compressor and air tank valve.
-
I didn't have any brown wire to finish the harness so I ordered some. I have about another hour of wiring to do. After that I'm waiting on parts to finish up
-
Great attention to detail.
-
The backrest on the left is the one for the Black Earth build.
-
It's moving along... I don't see any reason that I won't have it done for Daytona.
Brad is...! However, Mike is on a much-needed vacation cruising the 7-seas. At this point waiting on Joe Zett @ Xtreme Dimension to complete all the paint work.
-
If this weren’t my bike i’d want it! Haha. Mike and i have known each other now for many years and i can assure you all his work on his own bikes is amazing and the work he does on others is as if it were his own...
-
Time to get back in the garage... Joe where are our parts?.......
-
With less than a month to go before Daytona I'm waiting on painted parts once again. They are currently two weeks late....
Proof of "life" work pictures have been coming in.
Chin spoiler
-
Caliper inserts
-
Mid frame heat shields.
-
Fairing Factory razor tour pak
-
Native pitbull front fender
-
Switch covers. I think the are going to "pop" with all of the dark colors in and around the inner fairing.
-
Another dose of color. This is the chin spoiler screen.
-
Time for graphics and clear coat.
-
Rear fender
-
Moving along
-
A little different than OEM...
-
TP lid, I'm curious to see how close this stripe lines up with the rear fender. Joe and I weren't sure if It'd be possible but did agree it would look good if it could.
-
TP lid
-
Fender extension
-
Mid frame heat shields getting some clear.
-
Chin spoiler
-
A little color for the caliper.
-
I finished up the harness for the air ride and center stand.
-
Running the wires to the gauge bezel and fairing.
-
Lots of wires..
-
All tucked in under the factory cover
-
Air ride and center stand switches.
-
Getting there...
-
Single caliper...
-
The new bikes make it easy to remove a brake line. I don't know if the system will throw a light or not.
-
Parting shot until I get the painted parts.
-
Sure looking good, waiting to see finished product.
-

It will NOT set a code for this. I have done it before.

A little different than OEM...
Looking great. Do you know the paint code for the stripes? I’m thinking of adding a little detail to mine.

No I do not.
From my experience painters don't usually share that information.

Thanks that’s always been my experience with CVO paint. The parts catalogue lists the lower rocker covers as scorched orange so I assume that’s also the colour on the stripes on that model but a whole bike in scorched orange looks very different.
Thanks for posting your updates they are always very interesting. Great work and attention to detail.

The 180 front fender
-
Factory like stripes..
-
Added some body color to the all black fender.
-
I can picture this with the wheel... If I only had a wheel...
-
The rear fender is loosely installed here. I called it a day at this point.
-
It will NOT set a code for this. I have done it before.
Thank you. That is good to hear.
-
The rear end is all back together and ready to go.
-
All the wires are tucked up tight to the bag rail support.
-
Getting an idea of what it's going to look like from the front.
-
Painted the mid frame heat shields. The next time something goes to paint we'll send these back out to have the pin stripe added.
-
Stock..
-
Adding some color to the dark inner fairing area.
-
The orange pops with all of the black. This is the same color as the rocker boxes.
-
Your project is looking great, good job!!

Thank you.
I'm waiting on the wheel to come in from the powder coater and the chin spoiler from the painter.

Looks awesome Mike. Gonna do anything with the license plate bracket to clean up the rear fender?

That was something we talked about and Brad likes the factory version. :nixweiss: ;D

Looking good, nice work.

Wheel and spoiler should be at Mike’s and ready for install for the weekend. Then we button her up!

Matching razor tour pak too...

Matching razor tour pak too...
That is my project for Friday. Assemble and install the TP. Install the chin spoiler. Mount, balance and install the wheel... 😁
-
I definitely don't want to "beat" Puzzled to the punch, but way too excited about how this bike turned out. These are hot off the press. I'm sure he'll add better pictures...maybe some with sound? But we're gettin ready to head out to Daytona
-
another...
-
one more...
-
TP assembly..
-
Black hardware.
-
3/8" ss mounting hardware
-
SS hinge hardware
-
Nice looking razor TP
-
Details.. the stripe on the TP lines up with the fender.
-
Similar stripe to the front fender
-
Matching TP backrest
-
Measurements for the saddlebag block off plates
-
Plates cut
-
The stock CVO wiring harness enters the bags at the back of the bags. This interferes with the air compressor and air tank.
-
Moved the wiring harness to the front side of the bag similar to the location on my 2013.
-
The wheel with the second color added
-
With some soap and water I was able to spin the tire onto the wheel by hand.
-
I use Ride-On tire balancer and sealer. The calculator says 11-14 ounces. I installed 12 ounces.
-
Balanced and installed
-
Details... OEM HD wheel stickers
-
Body color chin spoiler with the screen painted to match the rocker boxes.
-
Caliper screen painted to match.
-
Single 11.8" OEM rotor.
-
Color matched headlight trim from HD.
-
The fender is close however it doesn't touch with the bike aired down. Ride height has plenty of clearance.
-
Cycled the air up and down, set the electric center stand height, bled the front brake.. ready to ride!!! :carrot: :orange:
-
Very nice.

I'm with da d00d on that, the fat front tire kit is sweet...
-
I really love the fat front tire. The bike looks great.
The Ugly as stock plate frame set up has to go. It kills the look from the rear. As you know, the Yaffe Stealth III is an good cure, and would really clean up the back of the bike.
-
Another one of your great creations. I agree with Dave on license plate. I am also not a big fan on chopped tour pac. They are pretty much useless for storage and prefer the full size removable, especially since the Rushmore tour pac came out. I feel stupid criticizing any of your builds because you are truly an amazing artist and I know the customer has a say. Also just personal preference. A beautiful bike.
-
Awesome job. Is that the 9” KW? How does it manage the wind?
-

Lol. I believe in our area Brad is maximizing his visibility. I agree though the Yaffe piece would look good.... I'll work on him.

I posted a video on Facebook with how much a late model Razor Pac holds. More than one would think. Not nearly as much as the American Tourister King Pac. Lol
For me personally it's ideal for what I needed mine for (2 leather jackets, 2 hoodies, 2 pair of chaps, 2 pair of gloves, assorted hats and eye wear.. and Mamma's brush and hair clips... 😉
-

I'll ask about the size.
For me it's to short. Than again Brad's seat isn't broken in yet so I feel like I sit hi on the bike. We are both similar height so imagine it's the same for him.
-
I was able to put a little under 200 miles on the bike. It rides very well with the tire profile and front air ride. I'm thankful at how well it manuvers. 9.4 miles from the house a car pulled out in front of us 😠. A quick zig and zag and I was on the center line avoiding the car and not jumping into the other lane where I had no idea if there was a car there our not..... Road tested!!
-

Ciro makes some small LEDs that run right under the saddle bag lids. Not very noticeable off, but lots of light when on, will work as run, brake and turn lights. Saw them at the race track in Daytona.
-
Brad tried to have the radio flashed at HD with no luck. Using the radio number and vin from the bike I was able to get a flash tool from Biketronics. The flash set the radio back to "0", no amps. This made a big difference in the sound. We gained the fade function again. This had to be done as all of the Boom stuff was removed and the bike was looking for it!
-
Since I was working on the stereo already....
-
Setting up the Roto-Zip to cut some holes.
-
Here we go..
-
Hole is cut for the adapter.
-
Adapter installed.
-
8" mid range installed. I went with a mid range as opposed to a mid bass as the amp is a four channel capable of running 8 speakers. I wouldn't be able to tune the mid bass and mid range separately as they are running off of the same output.
-
I was able to add the speaker wire to the existing harness.
-
Ready to make some noise!
-
Next up is sending the mid frame heat shields out for some striping and paint.
-
My thought process is to follow the stripe off of the tank and have it meet up with the stripe from the side cover. I'll leave one side of the stripe body color and the other side will be black. This will match the tank and side covers.
-
A few other parts were sent out for some color and graphics. They will add a personal touch to the bike.....
-
Nice work as usual.
-
Now we wait for Joe @ Xtreme Dimension to complete a few paint alterations so we can get her back together and back on the road!
-
Can’t wait to see how it turns out. Great work.

Received the parts from paint, time to assemble.
One of my favorite parts, the horn cover.
-
The AC cover, my initial thought was that is a lot of orange.
-
Another...
-
The side covers, they need a little work still to fix the pin stripe width.
-
The dash, it works well being orange on a dark colored bike.

Combined the parts flow...

Added HD to the tour pak to match the fairing.

I added a Rockford Fosgate DSR1 digital signal processor to the stereo. It made a huge difference in the sound. It is Bluetooth enabled so Brad will be able to adjust the sound to his liking from his phone. I have one on my bike and it really helped bring all the components together.

Puzzled did a great job putting it all together. His work is spot on. We have a couple minor paint issues to solve but besides that the build is essentially done ( they’re never really done). Now to pile up some miles. The bike turned out exactly how I imagined it. My favorite element is the 18 x 180 front wheel. I like the low down, mean stance of the 18” wheel. Many people (including Puzzled) tried to talk me into the 21 or 23 x 180 wheel but i was stubborn on the 18 and glad i stayed with it.
