Title: 2017 CVO Street Glide Air Cleaner
Post by: load97 on August 14, 2017, 08:52:38 PM
Is the air cleaner on the 2017 CVO's a high flow air cleaner/filter? I threw on HD's Screaming Eagle high flow exhaust system. The one where the cat is in the mufflers not the header. I wasn't sure if I needed a new air cleaner or not. Will be doing a stage 2 this winter I think. (new torque cam)

Yes, it's considered a Stage 1 AC. May consider the TTS100 cam, as a bolt-in that will beat the HD torque cam.

Thanks. Thought I read it somewhere, just wasn't having any luck finding info. At WOT, sure sounds like the air filter is restrictive. I had a blown 3.8L V6 that really sucked the air filter lol. I'm just doing the Torque cam if I do install a cam. Thanks though.

Showed a 6 HP loss when tested back to back against an open TB. It's way too short.

On a stock CVO 6 HP loss?

Steve, what do you suggest if running speakers in lowers on 17 CVO Streetglide?

On a stock CVO 6 HP loss?

Not quite stock, lol..
Stage IV 114 with the 515 cam, MX Pipe, TTS tuner. It was making 119 HP with the AC on. Jumped to 125 by removing it.
Just for comparison, the SE Heavy Breather showed a 1-2 HP loss. That's the best one I have tested. If your running lower speakers I'm not sure what the best AC set up would be? Something about twice as tall as the stocker for sure.

Would have appreciated if you would have said that in the first post. Here the whole time I thought the 6 HP loss was on a turbo charged M8.

I'm guessing they went that way to make more leg room and entice buyers on a stock bike. Which me being shorter, I sure do enjoy not grinding my leg on the air cleaner.

Everything is a compromise, and as long as Harley insists on hanging the air cleaner off the side of the engine where it will rub/hit the riders leg, you have to choose between rider comfort and lower restriction.  I get the impression that the air cleaner on the 2017 M8 is actually narrower than the Ventilator on the earlier models, but perhaps that is just perception since I haven't actually measured them against each other.  If true, it does make me wonder why they thought the previous Ventilator was a great idea for so long but then decided to go with a narrower unit in 2017.   :nixweiss:

Eventually I would expect the aftermarket to offer larger elements for the new air cleaner, just like they did for the older one.  Then the customer can decide just how much he prefers comfort versus more air flow.

It is indeed narrower, and there lies the problem. After re reading the OP post, he stated he's running Harley's Dual cat set up. Ac is most likely good enough at that power level.

I think the fact that he installed HD Cat mufflers made the air filter asm a non-problem. His problem is his exhaust system.

I'm pretty sure I read that Jamie at Fuel Moto said the stock AC was pretty good up to a stage 3. This was off another forum.
