Title: York CVO GTG
Post by: hard10 on April 21, 2008, 01:19:18 PM
I got an early start and was on the road by 7.40. I made a stop at Harley Haven in Columbia, SC for rest & fuel. They had  an '03 SERK. I'm about 10 minutes from Gene Lumis HD stopping for lunch & fuel. Won't Tbone & Gunn be surprized that I'm early! Pictures to follow tonight.

I guess someone should have called before hand and found out if they're open on Mondays. Needless to say they are not!
It's 64 degrees and partly sunny here in an empty parking lot.

It's ok, just hop on the deuce and practice while he's gone.
It's easy, gas, clutch and go!
It's just AJ's deuce!

Hey Linda,

You should try here in Maryland. It's known as the "MVA from 'ell".
Judy says she will miss you at the York GTG.

Good Morning All ~

I just spoke with AJ and they are on the road and heading up the Blue Ridge Parkway. He apologized for not getting any photos on last night but he was unable to log in from his Treo or the laptop ~ too many mountains I guess. He said he will try to get some on today when they stop. They are planning on riding into VA today.

OK, here goes:

We are having a great time. The weather could have been a little better but al in all it has been ok. BRP has been wonderful. We saw a lot of wildlife (not just the bunch I'm riding with). Deer, wild turkey, rabbit, ground hog, and a dog (I still think it was a deer). We are about 100 miles short of our anticipated destination for today so we'll have to make up time tomorrow. We had wanted to be in Charlottesville by tonight. We had some fun stops along the way though.

My first stop on Monday was Harley Haven in Columbia, SC

We had wanted to go to a BBQ place on Monday night that Gunn Runner insisted we try. Only problem was the whole town is closed on Monday. We ended up at Outback for a great meal w/ friends. Muley came by to join us.

Joe (Gunn Runner), Michelle (Mrs. GR), Joel (Muley) and Bob (Tbone).

Muley's horse was to have a foal that night so we never got to meet the Mrs. She will be there on Thursday.

We never did hear how the horse made out?

We finally made it to Buchanan, VA where I81 & the BRP (almost) come together.

Breakfast at 8, kickstands up at 9. Our goal will be Gettysburg but I think that will be pushing it if we continue all the way on the BRP & Skyline Dr. The temps are supposed to be in the upper 70's! Thanks for looking & I hope I didn't bore everyone. More to come tomorrow...

See Dave, I did get them posted!

Have a great day!

Nice road trip......we had a blast with T-bone, Ilene and AJ as we rode the BR Parkway and Skyline Drive...... up through the GA, NC, VA mountains.....great views. And Gettysburg was a place I'd like to go back some day for a few more days of touring.....we enjoyed being with all the other CVO owners in York and the plant tour.  Our return trip home stopped in Greensboro, NC Saturday to see family....then we spent the night in Amelia Island, FL Sunday night.....down to Daytona HD Monday and home to Tampa....we logged 2,767 total miles towing a small motorcycle trailer on the trip and NO OIL LEAKS !    :bananarock:  The bike and trailer performed to perfection.  Thanks AJ for all the pic postings.....we have 3 camera chips full of pictures to download this week ourselves ! Thanks T-bone for the trip planning. Great route and roads in PA, VA and W VA.

Looks like we had close to the same trip GR.  My little trailer followed me about the same miles.  My speedo sensor died about 10 minutes from the hotel leaving York on the trip home but had logged about 1500 before that happened.  2600-2700 miles.  That's a nice little weekend road trip :2vrolijk_21: .

Mrs We, if the cruise control still worked without it it's a part that would be way down the "to-do" list.  Still got a tach after all.  And got a speedometer (that's more accurate) on the GPS when going on a road trip.  But damn I like that cruise control.... ;D

Thanks again Don and Howie aka the bad one...for a great trip

Kathy and I did not ride with the group after the factory tour, instead we went to the battlefields in Gettysburg. Spent the whole afternoon there. On the return trip to York we ran into the NJ group. We all ate dinner in York and on the way back to the hotel got caught in a little rain.

We had such a great time that we are going back to Gettysburg for the 145th year anniversary. Never seen a reenactment before so this is a once in a lifetime trip.

While typing this, Kathy just informed me that some of my family are coming here for 4th of July  Guess what...... :nixweiss: We ARE going to be in Gettysburg. Hope they have a nice time  without us :coolblue:

The reenactments are a blast there Brian.  Back in college as a TA I taught a course on Civil War history and took a group out to join a bunch of reenactors.  It might be boring as hell to watch.  But doing it is a major hoot.  Dirty, stinky, sweaty, itchy, smell bad, bad camp food and fake weapons.  It really couldn't be much better.

4th of July tourist cruch at Gettysburg though.  Eeek, inlaws might be better.

I'm proud of my new buff bod.  You'd encourage all of our female members to post a topless avatar why should I be any different?

It's pretty funny.  We all can see what we want to see.  I saw a jamaican looking guy wearing a tie dye shirt and smokin a big reefer.  Later saw that it was only a yellow tshirt, a hawaiian Leigh and a cigar.  Seeing what we want to see.

Some of the neighbors with extra large yards have some kind of a rotation deal with the goats going on.  I see them in the yard for a few days every few weeks.  Looks like a great way to deal with the underbrush issue as well as just having the grassy spots kept up without the laborious need to mow every couple of days in the spring.

Our neighbors have everything but goats..we'd have to fence the yard..
Got two riding mowers and only one is working now..George needs to get the other one going so we can both mow.
