2 weeks, 5 countries, 2 seas
« on: August 19, 2011, 07:47:09 AM »

Hello,

last 2 weeks in July, I did a road trip through 5 countries and saw two seas - the atlantic ocean and the mediterraniean sea. For route planning I used my Garmin Zumo 660. My ride worked without any troubles using on average ~ 5l / 100km.

Based in Vienna, I took the train to Feldkirch where the trip actually started. Final destination was Florence, Italy form where I took the train home to Vienna, Austria.

Here are some pictures from the trip including a screenshot from the route.

regards,

Alex

P.S.: Plan for next year is going to "North Cape" in Norway.

Looks like a ride I'd like to do.

When you get on a train like that with your bike.....do you load your own bike or do they load it?  I heard they have a train on the east coast that you can take your bike, also.

You drive your bike onto the train and the people from the train operator fix it with straps so it does not fall during transport. It`s a good idea to stay there till they have fixed it and give them hints where to put the straps around or not. Some of this folks do not really know how to handle bikes correctly.

I alreay read some travel experiences from up there ;-) It will be a challenge to choose the right clothing and the right time of the year, of course. But there is enough time left for preperations until next summer ;-)
