from Jan - Nov 2012 23237 units were sold (above 50ccm).
Moco did well with the Forty-Eight, place 14 in the ranking
Iron 883 (286 units), place 15 Dyna Fat Bob (265 units) and
1200 Custom (237) on place 18.

Hard to believe they beat the Beamer in Europe, Thats a eye-opener.

HD number 1 in sales over all, and the number 1 selling bike. Pretty good for HD.

the Swiss market is quite special, H-D is No 1 there already for 6 or 7 years. For the other European countries things look different, H-D is gaining almost everywhere but nowhere as strong as in Switzerland. But they are No 3 now in Germany (http://www.ivm-ev.de/ivm_performance_2012_12_markt_in_zahlen.html?action=viewStatistic&StatisticId=8) with the XL 1200 X beeing best selling Harley and No 10 over all (http://www.ivm-ev.de/ivm_performance_2012_12_markt_in_zahlen.html?action=viewStatistic&StatisticId=1). Still BMW sells almost 6 times as much R 1200 GS as Harley sells the XL 1200 X - and there is none of the higher priced H-Ds within the top 50 in Germany.

Do they have higher taxes for bikes over a certain size in Europe? I know fuel economy is very important, and most cars in Europe get better mpg than Harleys.
When I lived in Japan years ago, any bike over 250ccs was taxed heavily. Makes for some strange sights. Once saw a motorcycle "gang" ride through a mall on their 50cc badass scooters, dressed like a gay version of Brian Setzer of The Stray Cats, to terrorize the shoppers. It was impossible not to laugh.
Harleys in Japan were rarer than Bentleys in Wyoming back then.

In Switzerland taxes are calculated depending on horsepower, as well is insurance.

Interesting news, bandit. Thanks for posting. I don't think most of us Yanks would have expected Harley Davidson to be # 1 in any foreign country. :nixweiss: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:
