Scaring the new guys
« on: September 03, 2007, 05:23:16 PM »

Hi,
New to the site.  I ordered a white and silver CVO ultra about 8 weeks ago.  It supposedly ships tomorrow.  Currently I ride an '04 Deuce (52k miles)......which I'm going to keep.
This site is a little intimidating because I think it lists every problem every CVO has ever had and then some.
My biggest concerns are heat and California restrictions on '08's which hinder putting on new pipes, cams, etc. which open up the engine and let it breathe (cooling it down).
     Any thoughts?

By the way, Sweetwter Harley in Chula Vista, Ca. has an '08 canyon copper on the floor for MSRP

Welcome to the site Jimmy.  As you're probably already aware, a lot of good information on this site.

For the 110's.........seems like most are managing that problem with an open exhaust and a high performance air cleaner however, the Race Tuner maps aren't available for the 08's just yet.  Not sure what the difference is between the 07 and 08s but it shouldn't be long before one of the aftermarkets has something you can use.  Till then, you have the consolation of a warranty. :nixweiss:

Hello, and welcome to CVO Harley.  At first, what you see can leave you wondering if you done the right thing by sinking your hard earned cash into what may appear to be a bottomless money pit.  From an OCD standpoint............IT IS!!!!!!  But as for heat management and reliability, you'll find answers here.  So, hang onto your wallet..............and follow d00d's lead down into the OCD abyss!  Welcome aboard..........hope you like ramen, pbj, and mac-n-cheese.   :P

Jimmy, I remember having buyer's remorse before I picked up my SEUC². There was an '06 that I could have gotten with low miles. After 9 months of ownership I now would not have changed a thing. I love my SEUC²  :orange:! The nice thing about this forum is that at least you hear the truth before it happens to you. And if something does happen to you, it has probably happened to someone else. Keep watching this site. Your promlems are not exclusive, HD is making a several thousand 110's this year. You're in good company! Welcome aboard, AJ

p.s. I love your color choice.

Welcome from TN!  Some of the info posted here can put a scare in you in regard to any Harley, but better to have been tipped off and know what to expect and what to look for.  I can only imagine issues that confront the owner that doesn't have the benefit of this site.  Good luck with the new bike!

Jimmy,
Welcome from Oklahoma!
I have had an 08 Canyon Copper & Silver Mist for a month now.  No problems and loving it.  Waiting, waiting, waiting....for a Power Commander.

There are a few Calif. guys here that can tell you what you can and can't do.

Good luck with the new scoot.

Howdy from Central Illinois

Just sit back and wait for the aftermarket (and Harley) to catch up with the 08 models.   :drink:  Until then you have stumbled onto like minded people with many ideas and lots of experience. If this site can't help you spend $$$$ nothing should scare ya

I'm glad that I decided not to sell my '04 Deuce......I have a great ride while I dial in the SEEG.  It is disheartening to read some of the downside, but it looks to me like it is worth the challenge.  I've already learned alot from you guys.
I'm thinking A/C, cams, and pipes.......reprogram it......let it breathe.....and ride!  Of course, I said that I wasn't going to ride much and I wasn't going to do anything to the bike, when I bought my Deuce in June of '04.  (I had not ridden for 30 years)  I have 53k miles and almost $40k into the bike.
California laws are likely to be a real issue over the next few years.......and if you're not from California......its coming your way......look at Denver.  I think I "thread jacked" my own thread.
Hey, glad to know this site...........

Ca laws have hit the nation
don,t think that if you have a normally aspirated engine you are going to get away with it? not to sound like a killjoy here but we all have to have our bikes inspected/ I don, know about the other states but in NY it is once a year, and in the southern states they have been doing the emission tests for awhile now( on cars at least) someone correct me if I am wrong

 :nixweiss:

I looked hard at the white/silver 08 before deciding on the canyon/frost combo.  The "photos" on the website are digitally colored, not photos, and do these bikes almost no justice.  The pamphlet for the Screamin' Eagle Ultra models shows a nice photo spread of the two colors side by side -- they look a LOT different and much better.
