Title: Flashing Cruise red to green light with switch on or off
Post by: beardog on January 15, 2017, 02:02:29 PM
So my CC light flashes red to green when the cruise is not engaged. Does not matter if the main switch is on or off. Any thoughts? Thanks for your anticipated helpful response and Humorous remarks!! Beardog

Thanks Spyder, Such as?  The cruise works fine, light stays green when engaged. When not in use it flashes red-green-red -green.

Isn't that the EIMTS that does that?

I don't think EIMTS was used yet on 2005.

Humorous remarks!! Beardog

For stuff like this if duct tape does not look good ehough to cover the offending light I use black electrical tape instead.

No idea why yours does that, mine is green when engaged, red when on but not engaged.

try unplugging the wires running to your throttle cables (on the right side of the backbone near the neck).  Mine would not stay in cruise and I did this which "fixed" it.  not ready to replace throttle cables yet so it'll have to work until i do get ready.  The only function those wires do is to deactivate your cruise when you throttle off (roll grip forward).  not a big loss for me as i can just tap the brakes.  good luck!

If the master is off the light should be neither red nor green. It should be red when the master is on but the system is disengaged and green when the master is on and the system is engaged.

Worked once on a pre-serial bus Ultra that behaved similar to your description and its problem was actually a harness issue.  Took a while to track down but then, fortunately, was a free fix.  Only other bike ran in to random cruise warning light problem was an 04 and it had master switch problem.  The switch was full of gunk/sludge/goo/yuck.  Replacement switch kit solved that bike.

The fact that it flashes with the master switch on or off is  a head scratcher.  I think I will spray electrical contact cleaner in it and see what happens.

I believe this points you in the direction of the fault. Only way that lamp should have a signal to light up is with the switch on. If the light comes on when switch is off it is because a power source is getting past the switch. Repair/replace switch.
