05 Rider - first of all you need the upgraded, new and imroved 04A version of the stealth heated grip. The vast tmajority of us had problems, either chrome peeling or burning out of the grips. I'm waiting for the upgraded version, so time will tell whether the new ones work better. Again.make sure you have the new grips which end in p/n -04A. Pj

Not all of the heated grips are at just their first A revision. At least one set is up to a B revision already. I'd been halfway thinking about a set but everytime the thought comes up you hear of yet another person whose got a dead set. One set that is in at least its third incarnation is 56174-03B

Think I'll go for a set of electric gloves... No chrome to worry about and a heck of a lot easier to replace... ;D

Had a set on my 02 Ultra,,,worked flawlessly for three years.
Put a set of Stealths on my 05 CVO and they worked for a few months, then ran the battery dead one night, with everything shut off except the temperature adjustment.
Took off left grip and there was an ounce or so of water in it, shorting out the on/off, temperature adjustment. I will say I am rather liberal with the water hose, but this never bothered my other set.
I have dried the left grip and will try it again to see if it now works as it should, if not, the left grip is a service item and its like $168.00 list price. When I do install it again, I'll be sure and run a small bead of silicon around the edge to try and prevent the water problem.

I had the stealth heated hand grips put on my seeg at it's first service, they burned out when I really counted on them just before the end of their warranty period - 90 days.

I just got my "A" series stealth grips last week. As soon as my Flanders bars get here, I will install them. My stealth grips have always worked great, even after riding in over 250 miles of heavy rain coming back from Sturgis. On mine the chrome rubbed through.
