Are S&S race lifters quieter in CVO 110 engines than Screamin eagle lifters. Tick Tick noise drives me crazy
-
The motor guys on here recommend S&S standard or GMR.. I'm sure they will chime in..
-
i went with the S&S premiums and am real happy.

The "tick, tick, tick" can come from other valve train components. There are several posts on this forum about rocker arms causing tick sound.

Can't go wrong with S&S. Standard or premium, they're both really good.

Good point. Allot of times it's not the lifters at all...

JUST got done installing a set of GMR lifters. the clack-clack noise that surfaced last week is gone. Back to the "normal" tick-tick of the 110 motor. Seemed to have movement in the axles you could see with the naked eye in all 4. Some wear patterns showing on 3 of the wheels. Mileage was 18,000.

We use nothing but S&S valvetrain components here.

The 255 cams that come in the 110's are ticky. The lifters? well the OE are not to be trusted. A cam swap (I used a 24D) and S&S lifters will quiet things down a bunch.

Are you using the standard S&S or the Premium lifters on CVO type builds?
-
Either will work.

A block of harwood would last better and be quieter than the SE lifters, hehe.
I'll likely catch hell for this, but I'd use S&S standards for lifts to .570, Premiums for lifts to .625 and the HL2T Premiums above that.
S&S or GMR are some of the best out there. My 124 (.640 lift) has the HL2T lifters in as stock with 70K, no noise. fwiw twinotter

Lifters don't tick tick tick.
Lifters rattle on cold startup, or a semi-failed lifter will clack.
If you have S&S lifters adjusted properly and still have tick tick tick, it's somewhere else.
I had my valve springs replaced with av&v .600's chasing the ticking when hot, made a huge difference. I took out S&S standards because they had over 15K miles on them, put in 850-1's. Low rpm when hot ticking is significantly reduced, 2700-3000 ticking or sewing machine noise is still prevalent (I think that is the rocker shafts).
I'm no expert, not a mechanic. My Harleys go tick tick tick. Andrews 57 cam. Earplugs and loud music.

A quality lifter is a nice upgrade to all of these twin cams.. The CVO does have a better lifter however the rollers are still showing the same spalling and transfer that the C lifters have.. Just pulled a set out of a CVO 2016 with 876 miles on it .. they looked like it had hard life . hit or miss deal some get lucky and they work fine other not so much.. But quality control is Mexico is some what hit or miss would be the best guess.
Comp cams, GMR, S&S , all work very well. Good luck with the swap what ever brand you choose its a wise investment, :2vrolijk_21:

There are a plethora of lifters out there..............then there is S&S.

that's the way I see it...

That is exactly how we approach that as well.
