Transmission Cover Bleeder Screw Rubber Cap P/N 43817-02
« on: May 26, 2014, 03:10:48 PM »

Thought I'd share something I found today... Those of us w/the older style (I believe they have changed them in recent years) transmission side covers w/the hydraulic bleeder screw & rubber bleeder cap I've found a cheap replacement if you ever loose it (see pics below)...

If you're as anal as me it bothers you not to have that cap on the bike (I know some don't let it get to them.... but I did admit to being anal :D) I found a cheap replacement at Advance Auto - Dorman - Autograde 7/32 In. Rubber Black Vacuum Cap (pics below) $2.59 for a pack of 5 (I believe it was that many). These fit IMO better than the original as they slip down on the nut itself and fit tighter. BTW - MoCo (on Ronnie's H-D Parts Lookup) currently wants $2.95 for one cap (that gets knocked off/lost all the time :().

When you install the cap, either the original or this one, squeeze the top 2/3 of the cap together to expel as much air as possible, then release after you have the cap well started onto the fitting.  I've been doing that with the original cap (I also thoroughly clean the fitting first) since the first time I had to bleed the clutch, and the original cap is still there after many removals and reinstalls.  If you just shove the cap onto the fitting the trapped air acts like a spring and helps push the cap back up.

Hehehehehe... matter fact... I just got back from going out and squeezing the nipple... no air left at all... but for some reason I need to go smoke a ciggie (I don't even smoke) and take a (cold) shower... See what you started Jerry!!! :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

Yes he does. :P ::) :D

BTW - I checked while I was getting the air out of the nipple and it is actually 6 nipples in the pack mentioned above. :2vrolijk_21:

I lost mine on a road trip after getting a 'courtesy' wash from the dealer at destination.  They looked everywhere for it and even looked at some of their bikes on the floor.  While all of the '11 110's on their floor had the same nipple on the cover, none of them had caps and they thought I was crazy.

I just took the rubber protector off of one of my bungee cords and rode on... then went shopping for a 'final' replacement.  Found a new bungee cord with white caps and it blends with the chrome much better.  You can never have too many bungee cords.  8)
