Dirty Girl
« on: March 15, 2010, 02:36:27 AM »

So my baby has a little dust and some fingerprints on her.  After working on her (new aux imput, J&M speakers) Can I just dust her off with a soft rag or do I need to wet the bike to be safe?

It depends on how deep you want the scratches to be.  I personally would NEVER wipe (or let anyone else) down my bike with a rag.  If it's got dust on it and you don't feel like washing it, I would ride it that way until I feel that it's dirty enough to wash.  I used to wash my bike EVERY time I rode it, but now I wash it maybe once every week or so...

Let me clarify what I just posted...when I said "rag", I meant cloth, microfiber or whatever...

I keep a "Swiffer Duster" in my bike.  It seems to pick up the dust and not scrach if you just run it lightly over the bike.  I use it between washes, it just keeps the dust off.

I would advise to never dry wipe ant dust no matter what, you will scratch. Only use microfiber for wiping on a clean surface or you may be sorry.
Thats only my advice but that is what the MOCO says to do also.

As I said earlier, what you wipe your bike with depends upon how deep you want the scratches to be...

If I want to do touch ups, I use the new aerosol spray polish from H-D it seems to work quite well, and leaves a nice slick surface.

I've used a Calfornia Duster for years on several diff scooters takes the dust right off and never scratched anything.  Don't remember, but think I got it at NAPA.

I use the Honda spray cleaner and polish...in an aerosol can.  Great stuff and gives the bike a nice shine.  I keep a can with me along with a couple of micro fiber towels.
