But, DON'T get the Easy-off overspray on anything else. Spray the rag.

Cobra recommends EZ-Off Cold over cleaner for this. No need to heat up the pipes. Spray it on the cold pipes (watch out for overspray), leave it over night and in the morning, just wipe it clean. I've not had a need to try it, but they swear it works beautifully.

Im with you on this, but since my wife rides here own its not an issue. But i better not have any gooo on my pipes. mmm, that sounded odd, goo on my pipes, ya right, we dont want to come home with that.
and since this thread started with the phrase New Passenger, sounded a bit generic, a bit, "I picked up this chick at the bar and she said she has ridden alot and then she melted her Walmart boots all over my pipes"

My wife uses the pipes on her RK as a heel rest. I swear she does. I discovered that using a 'liquid sandpaper' product, which probably contains every evil chemical known to man, works good. Cold or cool pipes are best so the stuff doesn't evaporate so fast. I put it on a rag and rub lightly. Or, if there's a nice build up from several weeks, soak the rag and lay it on the rubber/plastic/whatever for a few minutes. Always works. Then, apply polish and wax of your choice.
I used to heat it up with the Mapp gas torch and work it off with a piece of wood, but I got burned fingers too many times.  I'm thinking about wrapping her pipes. Or her feet. Or rapping her head. But, I love her and I'll keep cleaning her pipes.  ;D

Said it on the other thread but it works so well I have to repeat it here: Rowenta Iron Cleaner (for cleaning clothes iron.)  Easy to use; works fantastic; non-caustic, non-abrasive, don't have to sweat overspray.

I spray some WD-40 on some very fine OOO steel wool.  Takes it right off and doesn't scratch the pipe.

I've used "Goof- Off" many times and haven't seen any damage yet.  It will dissolve the rubber from the shoes. I usually follow with some wax or chrome polish.
In my case, I'm the Goof who can't keep his boots off of the chrome.

Not sure what bike you have, since you haven't completed that part of your profile, but if you have a touring model, get the floorboard extensions from www.harleygoodies.com/hdf.  They move your floorboards outward 1".  They are much more comfortable and I haven't touched my pipes with my boots since I installed them.

Welcome to the board.  You should complete items like where you are from and what bike you ride on your profile. It will help tremendously with answering questions for you.  There are tons of knowledgeable people on here, as well as some quite entertaining posts.  Definitely good people on here.

I hate to let my secret out  but it works well,,  I use a little  wd40 or goo-off and rob one of my wife's scraper razor blades that uses to clean the cook top with and  lay the razor blade close to flat and remove the boot/heel mark.  Its just too easy   done it on 7 or 8 bikes and never had any issues.      The wd-40 is just used as a lubricant     Try it and let me know what you think.   JT

"Road Rub"

This is the deodorant stick that I use.  Rub on/wipe off.  That easy.   No rubbing pressure at all.  I use to use brake clean but you always had to rewax the area.

I use steel wool on the chrome heat guards to get the shoe goo off.  Only use the super fine stuff, I believe it's 000 or 0000.  It actually really polishes up the chrome.  It sounds crazy, but works very well.

Carterville is right between Marion and Carbondale.  We are about 50 miles from KY and MO.  I see you're in Franklin TN, very nice place there.  I'm about 3 hours from you.

The steel in the steel wool is harder than the chrome.  That's why you need to use very fine steel wool so to polish the chrome not "sand" it.  For boot marks try using some cleaner / polish  or detailing spray.  Rub with some crumpled up aluminum foil which is not harder that the chrome.  Great result and no scratching the chrome.

I'm not selling this stuff, but if you want, IMHO, the best for removing boot rubber, micro fiber rag (don't ask), tar, and just plain old bluing, get Blue Job.  Guaranteed not to scratch or damage your chrome and it's great.  I've gotten a lot of "crap" off of my pipes with this stuff and it leaves the chrome with a brilliant finish.  A little pricey, but great stuff.

Go and ride it for about 30 miles with the rubber on the pipe.  A lot will burn off, the rest will come off with some chrome polish and elbow grease.

Get the pipe hot, take a clean towel and put into gasoline.
Then you can rubb it of. if its' a big piece of rubber, it will
take a little more time. At the end (pipe cold) use chrome polish.

Get the pipe hot, take a clean towel and put into gasoline.
Then you can rubb it of. if its' a big piece of rubber, it will
take a little more time. At the end (pipe cold) use chrome polish.

regards, Bandit
DO NOT,, I repeat, DO NOT use gasoline, way too volatile, too many other things out there that work.

you guys need to scrap every idea posted here with the exception of the Oven Cleaner suggestions. TRY IT...  :-\  It really does work. spray it directrely on the boot marks, and even micro fiber towel marks, (i have my own story on that one too, isn't it amazing how fast one disappears on a hot exhaust  :P) let it soak in a few hours and simply wipe away.. It's that easy. BUT,, let it soak into the marks/stain, otherwise no results.  ;)

:cucumber: The best thing I have ever used is simply Bon-Ami its just like ajax or comet.  On cold pipes simply take a wash cloth or rag and dampen then sprinkle just a small amout of powder on the rag and it will wipe right off. I have done this for years and it WILL NOT scratch pipes!!!!

Oven cleaner, just be careful....only spray on pipe if you get it anywhere else it will work on that too. Even if you didn't want it to.

This is great advice do not spray directly on the pipes even a little overspray can cause big problems

I have heard a lot of products on this thread that work! But I don't want to carry a can of w-d 40 or brake cleaner on a road trip.
Most all of us carry some type of detailer, and whether its shoe rubber, Or something kicked-up  off the road; Tar, Plastic etc. I carry a small piece of aluminum foil, it doesn't seem to blemish the chrome, if used with a lubricant (a detailer) crumple it up, spray detailer and rub till  it comes off.

Tried it today, at lunchtime I sprayed the boot marks after work I removed
nearly all of it. Sprayed it again and I'm sure tomorrow morning it will all come
off. Good Tip!!!

Now keep them boots off the exhaust......exhaust is only for dirt and dust.

Buddy of mine picked up something at a rally, looked like a small deodorant stick. He said it takes the marks right off, no harm to the Finnish. I'll find out the name and post it later.

No boots, the trousers touched where front and back exhaust come together. I think
if i put the bike on the sidestand it happened.

The stuff I was talking about before is called Road Rub. I haven't tried it yet, nothing to clean off at this time. My buddy says it's great stuff, he has used it a few times, no damage to the chrome, I looked, couldn't see where he had used it even when he pointed out the area.
