Said it on the other thread but it works so well I have to repeat it here: Rowenta Iron Cleaner (for cleaning clothes iron.)  Easy to use; works fantastic; non-caustic, non-abrasive, don't have to sweat overspray.

I saw your other post somewhere, and apparently I didn't figure out what you were responding to and I couldn't figure out why someone was posting how to clean an iron.  Now I know why you were posting this info.

Easy-off oven cleaner
warm up the pipes and it works great
then use the never dull when the pipes cool off

Used the Easy-off per your recommendations, and it worked great !!

Thanks !!

I use a product sold at my HD dealer, a product called Colonel Brassy.  Cleans even the worse baked on rubber with ease.

I've used "Goof- Off" many times and haven't seen any damage yet.  It will dissolve the rubber from the shoes. I usually follow with some wax or chrome polish.
In my case, I'm the Goof who can't keep his boots off of the chrome.

Not sure what bike you have, since you haven't completed that part of your profile, but if you have a touring model, get the floorboard extensions from www.harleygoodies.com/hdf.  They move your floorboards outward 1".  They are much more comfortable and I haven't touched my pipes with my boots since I installed them.

Welcome to the board.  You should complete items like where you are from and what bike you ride on your profile. It will help tremendously with answering questions for you.  There are tons of knowledgeable people on here, as well as some quite entertaining posts.  Definitely good people on here.

I use EZ-Off Oven Cleaner Cold on mine. Spray it on a rag, wipe it on the pipe, let it sit over night and just wipe it clean in the morning. No muss no fuss

I hate to let my secret out  but it works well,,  I use a little  wd40 or goo-off and rob one of my wife's scraper razor blades that uses to clean the cook top with and  lay the razor blade close to flat and remove the boot/heel mark.  Its just too easy   done it on 7 or 8 bikes and never had any issues.      The wd-40 is just used as a lubricant     Try it and let me know what you think.   JT

My local dealer sells a product called "road rash" or something like that.  It is like a small deodarant stick.  Rub on and wipe off.  Works great.

Will the products work to remove road tar that has dried and hardened onto the pipes or shields? Thanks

Get this http://www.vanlark.com/ "Road Rub", I have used EZ Off oven cleaner, razor blades, and other liquids. I now only use "road rub". Problem is your dealer will have to carry this item

Brake cleaner takes to stuff right off, and it will not hurt paint or chrome.

"Road Rub"

This is the deodorant stick that I use.  Rub on/wipe off.  That easy.   No rubbing pressure at all.  I use to use brake clean but you always had to rewax the area.
