What Polish do you recomend ?
« on: March 29, 2012, 03:11:49 PM »

I am new to this forum and wanted to ask what do you use for polish/wax.
I just got a 1200 HD Sporster that needs our help.

Lots of choices out there, but you'll want to start with picking up some Pimp Stixxx, to get into those tight nooks and cranys that are hard to reach.  This is the best all round cleaning kit I've come across in a long time.  Tell them you're with CVO Harley.  They may still be honoring the discounts awarded our members.

http://www.pimpstixxx.com/?gclid=CNfd2ZLojK8CFWsaQgoduXIw9Q

I use Meguire's Ultimate Detail for touch up and Malm's (De-racer clay bar and Ultra-fine Polishing Cleaner) for deep cleaning and polishing.  http://www.malms.com/

Malm's also has a very high quality concetrated carnauba paste wax: http://www.malms.com/extreme_paste_wax.html

This stuff isn't cheap, but who want's to use "cheap" on their top of the line investment?  I doubt anyone here does.   :cool2:

Now to go find some Polish Sausage...y'all got me hungry... :smilie_koch1:

Parówkowa, Kiełbaska Biała, Góralska, Surowa, Myśliwska.

Sorry, Polish wife...and I'm starving!

First one or two applications of Meguire's #7 Professional Show Car Glaze. Then an application of Meguire's Next Generation 2.0 Wax. That should do you fine, but if you really want to be ACD you can mist and wipe with Meguire's Pro #39 Final Inspection. All products can be obtained at Auto Zone for a combined cost of about forty bucks.

Always been hesitant, but still meaning to try this.  Do you use it instead of a polish, just after a good wash?

I carry Lemon Pledge Wipes in my saddle bag at all times. Great for getting bugs off windshields, metal parts, and great for cleaning up between major washes. Has to be the Lemon Pledge tho as it's the lemon that gets the bugs off.

I use the Glare system (4 different levels of cleaning) once or twice a year. Really makes the bike pop.

Glare, Glare, and Glare.  There is no other product that does what it does, and I've tried almost every possible brand/variation.  It costs more, but one bottle goes a LONG way.

Griot's Speed Shine when I don't want to give the bike a complete bath.

When I polish it I like to use "Liquid Glass" and have been using it for 20 years on everything I own.  IMO the best polish ever made.

At the risk of having all the Glare-O-Phites  (nobody in particular either by the way ) threatening to burn down my house I have always used Turtle Wax and find it to be good enough for a vehicle that gets ridden in all kinds of weather, routinely on dirt roads and dealing everything from SoCal Freeways to backwoods Maine roads. I have no argument with the Glare-O-Phites claims of vast superiority of finish. It does seem to do a nice job, but the cost, time to do the multi-step process just make it a non starter for me. I consider it a trailer queen product.

B B

Let the bashing begin, it's been far too long since I got ranted at by anybody on this site. A good bashing would feel like way back in 05 when me and Hubbard used to rave at each other. So bring it on !!!!!

Zymol as a cleaner/wax for getting the base protection down.  Then Meguires or Mothers products as a polish and touch up.  This way I only need to "wax" a couple times a year, and everything else is a touch up  ;D

Hey Brian, I'm frugal and lazy (and I don't sniff Glare).  Can I be a TALB too?  Are there membership numbers?  Are you the Grand Poobah?

Just buy one bottle of their polish and try that....unless you have 'damage' , swirl marks or something, that'll be all you'll need anyway.  It does last a long time once you've bonded it into the paint and don't wash it away with a strong/aggressive soap or cleaner in subsequent washings.  spyder

Air Glare, I get it through Aircraft Spruce. $27 for 12oz. bottle.  Boeing approved and confirmed safe (and recommended) by Glare as their finest polish available for any vehicle or any paint.  List for $49 on Glare's website and I don't know what it cost elsewhere but $27 for a bottle didn't seem to steep from Aircraft Spruce.  I'm very happy with the results. My paint was in excellent shape to start with so I never started with the four step system, just started with the professional aircraft polish.

I use Meguires NXT Tech. WAX 2.0 & love it ... looks nice, wpies off easy & no white powder residue. A little Nevrdull shines up the inside of my mufflers real good. A damp & dry microfiber towel is all I use for the chrome.

I reckon I'm in the same dog house as Spiderman  ;D I use the higher price Turtle Wax it works for me.
Bike comes out with a great shine and gives the paint a deep mirror tone look to it "NO COMPLAINTS".

               Thats two for Turtle Wax.

"Just a thought" but every one has their own prefrents as to witch polish is better  I'll start a post you state your polish of choice and show a pic on how she shines we'll see wear it gos.

That's a good idea & would be interesting to see if I could only figure out how to upload pics from my phone to here. I'm a real computer dummy.

I've used a bunch of good polishes...Zaino, Klasse and Zymol.

My favorite polish is Zaino; serious wet looking shine that lasts and repels dirt/dust really good. Zaino also makes a great leather product for seats that has UV protection and keeps the leather supple. Their Z-7 wash is also good. They claim it uses "special water based lubricants to buffer the paint from scratches, swirling, or marring." Seems to work well for me.

Bottom line, Zaino is top notch stuff.

For a wax, I like Pinnacle Carnauba. The wet look is unmatched even next to Zaino, but being a wax, the shine doesn't last quite as long and it is a bit more expensive if you have "shiny bike" OCD. If smell counts, it wins hands down.

You really can't tell one from another in a photo...it just can't capture the "look".

Glare, Glare, Glare...I've used 90% of the others, and they don't compare, especially with regards to longevity.  Carnuba looks good...for about a month, or until the first or second wash.  It washes off, as will any "wax".

I use Zaino all the time on my car and it works great (car is white). I use Glare on my bike mainly because its black and the Glare is awesome in removing any swirl marks. Both seem to last about the same. Zaino seems to have a better shine especially when used with their Z6 Gloss Enhancer. But its so close it's hard to tell the difference. If you want to try Glare all you need is the Glare Professional Polish (unless your paint is really oxidized). Both are great.

Tonight I used Glare to get out any fine scratches and then used Zaino to top it off with a final coat of Z6. It turned out well.

It lasts forever...you'll be using the same bottle, if all you do is the bike, 4 years from now.

Tried a bunch, including Glare, but will throw my vote behind Glass Wax. Lasts longer than the others including G.      JoeS

I used to belong to a mustang site & all those guys swore by Zaino ... good stuff but theres a laundry list of diff. products/steps to go through. Supposedly its one of the few products that can build layer upon layer to produce one of the deepest shines the more you use.

How much does a bottle of Glare cost?

I just picked up some of the Turtle Wax "ICE" and put it on. I was looking through cleaning products and saw this was a liquid and so decided to give it a try as I figured it would be easier to apply than a paste/cream that can leave residue in the cracks and this would have no over spray. Opened up the package and they give you an applicator sponge and a microfiber towel. I like the sponge. As you apply more product it holds it in without dripping and allows you to spread the product around more. I believe I will get more out of this bottle than I would a spray bottle as there is no waste.

And I love the way it came out. Glass like finish. We'll see how it holds up over time but for now this looks sharp

For quick wipe downs I typically use Meguiar's Quik Detail spray

Finally picked up the Pig Spit and found it very effective cleaning the transmission housing without a lot of water.  I don't wash my bike with water, so it works great for me.  :tekst-toppie:

I have used numerous products through out the years from Pledge to Glare. Recently I tried a product called Finish First on my SERGU. This has been by far the easiest to use and the final shine is awesome. http://www.finishfirstpolish.com/products/Finish-First-Polish/
