I do not agree, if they are not deep and only in the clear coat some elbow grease micro fiber towels and some polishing compound will do it with minumal risk.  My cost over here in Germany to fix a 4.5 inch scrape was nearly 300 euro.  My cost maybe $10 plus about 2 hours of my time.  Insurance paid out nearly 2.5k euro for that scrape alone, granted i had to pay the bike off early so the insurance would payout to me directly.  Here is a pic of the damage
