Removing wax off basket weave saddlebags
« on: February 04, 2014, 12:53:02 PM »

HELP!

I just purchased a 97 Heritage Springer Softail & it has wax splatter on all over the basket weave leather accessories. I'm just starting to clean the bike up. It has had 30 miles put on it in 6 years! This is getting to be a pain in the A$$! It is real fine  splatter but I need to get it off. Looks like he used a buffer at one time. to wax it.

I have seen the thread on using peanut butter! Looking for any other suggestions.

Thanks, Danner

Soft bristle tooth brush and some leather cleaner should do the trick... then when clean, repeat the process with some leather protectant.  Might want to take the bags off first so you don't transfer the leather cleaner onto any painted surfaces.  Don't think it would hurt anything, but that's just another area to have to clean if the brush flings the stuff around.   8)

Have you tried wiping it off w/Armor-all?

A little late for this, as it was not you......always remove bags b4 any major cleaning.

Armor al doesn't phase it!  Using a scotch brite pad lightly works. It's taking a lot of time this way. I've never heard of any product that dissolves wax. The basket weave design is a pain to get this wax off.

Try Doc Baileys  it  works great on boots and saddlebags as a scuff cover and leather conditioner

Try detailing spray, like Griots Speed Shine.  It will remove dried polish cast off from my buffer. Someone else said Doc Baileys...that be the 2nd thing I'd try.

I got it all off! :orange:

I used a combination of Griots Micro Fibre & Foam Pad Cleaner in some water & a scotch brite pad.

Thanks for all the ideas!
