Title: Handlebar help
Post by: Raddai on December 10, 2016, 12:26:29 PM
i have a 2014 Limited CVO with stock bars. I'm 5'6" tall and was told be the Chubbys Wild 1 tech that the 10" mini apes would not would for me. They said I need to install the WO 579 Bagger Low to get the bars back so I could lean back on the back rest. My question is.... does anyone know anything about the differences between the stock bars and the WO579 Bagger Lows? And will the new bars help?

I suggest you spend some time on the Wild One website.  They have specs on your stock bars and all the various bars they offer that will fit your bike.  Sounds like you want / need are bars with more pullback so you don't have to lean forward.  According to WO the 579s give you 3" more pullback but they are also 3" wider than stock.

You mentioned your backrest.  Is it all the way forward on the fender mount?  If not that might help.  I'm almost  5' 9" (used to be a bit taller but I've gotten 'compressed', lol) and find I need the mount in the next to the most forward position to get me close enough to the bars for comfort.

Hope this helps and good luck deciding.

I changed mine to Khrome Werks narrow sweepers 2 + 2, they are same width as stock but 2" back and 2" rise.

I'm 5'6" too (and shrinking!)  On my previous bikes I had the WO575s, but they don't fit the Rushmore inner fairing.  I went with the HD 56176-08   Bat Wing Reduced Reach Handlebar, which helps, but I never have found my ideal bars.  >:(  The problem with the WO bars for vertically challenged guys like you and I is how wide they are.  If you have the bars fully turned for tight turning, it's a worse stretch than the standard bars because of their extra width.  On the positive side, changing bars on a Rushmore bike is 1000000 times easier and quicker than the older bikes.

Thank you all for the very good information. I've purchased the WO 579s and will be installing them soon. I will be posting what I think about the bars.

Any issues or happy with them? I keep looking at these and almost ready to buy. How tall are you?

Yes very happy with Khrome weeks bars, I am 6ft tall but I think my arms are shorter than they should be, lol. Have owned many bikes and this is the first bike for which I have changed the bars and wish I would done this 3 bikes ago, can honestly say it's the best mod I've done. I can sit up straight against the backrest and am not reaching at all. They also work with stock brake and clutch lines, but wiring does have to be extended. Here is a pic of the bars, hope it helps.

Very helpful, thank you. Also good info about the wiring, I wondered about that. I'm 5 7 and I can get on the backrest but it could be more comfortable with some pullback. Not looking forward to extending the wiring lol

To follow up - I did go with the 2 + 2 narrow sweepers. I found conflicting information on extending the wires so I called KW to ask. Nice guy and he assured me the factory wiring on my 2016 Limited would be long enough, and told me that the clutch cable was the most difficult problem but most got it to work. Everything did reach except the heated grips, but just barely. I could have easily spliced the wires but decided to make my own extension plugs for the grips. In ordering the connectors and pins my dealer told me about 69200034, a 10" extension kit for both switches. Throttle cable was easily long enough, so what with my handmade heater extensions (plugs made for 18-22 gauge wire) and the factory extensions I was in business. The clutch and brake had to be rerouted but that was simple and the length worked out perfectly.

Cons -
Without extensions the switches would reach but it was very tight, as in can't fold the batwing down to work on it. The wires would have to be disconnected every time you needed to tilt it. That was a tighter fit than I wanted, the hd extensions were only 30-35$. Heated grips had to be extended.

The holes for the cables weren't large enough to fit the plugs through, so some surgery to enlarge the holes and smooth the edges.

Pulling those cables with plugs was very difficult. I should have used a little soap or something but I pulled them dry and I really don't know if they would come back out without the plugs wedging and pulling free. It was a tight fit, like an elephant in a tutu.

Maybe this info will help someone out. It's been too cold to ride but Friday looks promising, can't wait to try them out. New position seems good but we'll see!

Added 12s to mine before delivery. Needed cables also.
