We cannot give up riding
« on: August 29, 2020, 10:03:34 PM »

After my husband had a few friends seriously hurt in motorcycle accidents, he decided to give up riding. After I had a dear friend get hurt in a motorcycle accident, I made the same decision.

As time passed, we reflected, and realized that it was the riders errors that caused the accidents. Making passes when the car driver hadn't acknowledged their presence, legal or illegal. Riding faster than their skills allowed. Riding down a hill with the motor off, and a car coming up on an intersection.. didn't hear or see them so the car went, and the bike t-boned the car.

Well, after the reflection, commiting to ride safely not stupidly, and obviously missing riding, we're back! We pick up our new CVO Smoky Gray & Stormcloud CVO Limited tomorrow at 11 AM. I admit, going to the bank today for the cashiers check was painful, but we hope that the joy that the motorcycle brings us makes up for the hole in our wallet.  :apple: :orange:

You'll be happy getting back into riding.
Get that map out and pick a destination to dissappear for a few days so you have a reason to wash that new bike.
And Congratulations.

If wanting to live life without risk, you’ll waste away valuable years sitting in a recliner, watching reruns.  Using a tractor, skydiving, scuba diving, rock climbing, cycling, flying, using a chainsaw, motorcycling, etc., all come with a degree of risk.  No one is going to reach the end of their life and reflect back, wishing they’d spent more time watching TV.

What a joy it is to be back on two wheels. We explored Big Bear, Idyllwild, Santa Monica, Ojai, Santa Maria, and Oceano all in the last week. 1600 miles and counting.

Boy did we make a terrible mistake by selling in the first place. We're in makeup mode now, where it's time to make up for lost time!

Completely get it! Had my share of mishaps over 40+ years of riding and never could wait to get back on a bike again!

Good for you both. It is tough losing friends and then continuing on.

I have thought about giving it up for years due to a few health problems that really limit my riding. In fact we have my wife's CVO up for sale now due to a health issue that stops her from riding her own anymore. I just enjoy it too much to give it up completely, even if the rides are shorter and less often. Enjoy it while you can, the day comes for all of us when we have to say "thats all". We all hope that day is many years away, but sometimes it isn't, again enjoy it and all the wonderful things that riding brings into our lives. IMHO you made a great decision.
