PO118 Engine Temp code

My new to me 03 FLHRSEI2 is showing the ET sensor code (check engine light) the HD box identified it as the PO118 ET code.
Has anyone had their switch itself fail?
I've checked the connection, followed the wires all the way to the loom and found nothing pinched, rubbed, or damaged.
The symptoms are as follows; appears to be running rich, stalling when idling, the idle is roaming all over the place, and takes several cranks to start it (sometimes).
It has a new battery, plugs, plug wires, PCIII that was mapped with the correct map (by their company).
Bike runs good, is not making any pinging noises or signs that its running too hot.
Is it possible the sensor is just going bad after 17 years?
I've got a new sensor on order. Just looking for advice on what else to check.

Do a continuity / resistance test of the wiring from the sensor connector to the ECM connector, to verify the wiring integrity. Any time you have a tuning device like a PCIII inserted into the system, you need to verify the problem isn't in the PCIII wiring. If the wiring is good, a failed ETS is a very good possibility. They fail, just like many other sensors.

Unbalanced:
Could remove the PC III and see how bike starts
Might also check/ clean the IAC and possibly the Map sensor
Stalling - might also look for an intake leak
Not sure the ET sensor would affect motor on cold start

Have rarely had them fail. Only a couple times I can remember ever. One of those two did effect start, idle speed, and occasional stalls at idle. What made sense at the time was that the system was trying to supply fuel and air settings for a bike it thought was not at full operating temperature when the engine was actually hot.

Replaced the ET Sensor switch and the check engine light cleared. The bike springs to life on the first crank now, idles very smoothly, and scoots when you twist its tail.
