Stick-on reflectors
« on: April 12, 2009, 01:29:25 PM »

Anyone removed the stick-on reflectors on the sides of the bags on the 09 FLTRSE3?  If so, what's the best way to do it without damaging the paint?

Many, many of us have.

Hair dryer, fishing line or dental floss, (goo gone, goof off or WD-40) for the residue. It also helps to have a third hand prying just a little as you work the thread through the tape. Finish off w/ the wax of your choice.

A heat gun with a reducer to get the temp down to 200 degrees will be enough to pry up an edge with your fingers.  From there, just use the heat gun to gently heat the remainder of the reflector, while using finger pressure to pull until it pops off.  Clean up remaining adhesive with WD-40 and finish clean with a wet microfiber.  Apply your preferred polish product.  Would stay away from fishing line on paint, but wouldn't hesitate to use it on the reflectors on the chrome forks.

Thanks for the tips, everyone.

I have just slowly pulled them off then cleaned the residue with goo gone on previous bikes when they were on chrome, but I am understandably a little more cautious with those on the painted bags.
