I'll admit I went with 12.5" monkey bars mostly for looks and fit. Looks is personal taste, and needs no further comment.  8)
As for fit, I have a pretty shabby back, and having my arms up at shoulder level is more comfortable, for me, on longer rides. With the stock bars I get cramped in my lower back.
Hands are exposed to the wind - a pro in the summer, a con in the winter

BUT - The truth is I was amazed at the improvement in handling, which I didn't expect, but which is actually consistent with the physics of counter-steering. The angle of leverage is greater, so on slow or sharp turns - or quick swerves - you have more force on the handlebar. I imagine true ape hangers, where you're reaching up above the shoulder line, might incur some other physics, and it becomes "pull steering" instead of push steering.

Please excuse my next question due to niavete,

What is the purpose of those?

I realize how stupid that question may be, considering all the other stupid stuff  we put on our bikes.
after all it is a bagger

looks?
fit?
handling?

To my eye it looks like it puts your hands in direct weather (no bat wing protection) and not sure it is better for handling,
so that leaves looks and Fit

Hey Wheels, do you know what all is needed to go with 10"s MBB's?  Are new cables and wiring required?  If so, what length?  I am wanting to do this, but I wanna swap out to stainless lines if needed.

Thanks,
fish

Fish
I have the 10" n my09 S/G and had no problem using the stock wires...No additional wiring are required...However with that said I would if I new then what I know now I would add the extra length of wiring to the existing wires to allow the connectors to sit and lock into the factory supplied locations rather then have them relocated else where...
cable are a different story...I understand that the stock cables will work but I know of no one that has confirmed this...I ran 4+ on all the lines and if I had to do it again I would opt for the +2" on the brake and the +4" on the clutch...I went with the polished S/S cables that magnum offers...
Really looks nice...
I have all the wires run internally which the right side is just a pain in the a$$...But it is do-able...Just be patient...
If you have ABS then you will have to have the dealer hook the bike up to some kind of unit and bleed the brakes which will allow the ABS feature to kick in...However you can bleed the brakes just like you would normally do and all will be fine you just wont have the abs feature, but it will stop just the same...Cost should be .5-1.0 hr labor for the ABS brought back on line after the system has been bleed...
best of luck in your enterprise undertaking...

Paul,

Thanks for the info on this.  I'm not sure that I am up for all this, but if I paint my inner, it would only make sense.  Now, the question, how will my wife feel about this?  LOL!

I've decided to go with at least the 12.5" bars.  Likely from the same online seller as you too.  Have you found out what size cables/lines are needed?  Thanks Wheels

Not exactly I ordered the Monkey Bagger Bars and they sent OEM Monkey Bagger Bars (Road Glide) So I have to get them exchanged.  >:(

I emailed them yesterday no responce I am about to call them. I can tell you holding the 12.5 OEMS up there they seem shorter than expected?  :nixweiss:

So I am glad I at least went 12 I have had some PM's saying they clutch and brake cables need to be 2" and 4" longer but will wait till I get the correct Bars and measure myself.

Hopefully this project will be complete next week  :coolblue:

Nice seat and back rest wheels.  Following JCZ's recommendation I ordered a similar set-up and love it.   Looking forwards to seeing the bars :2vrolijk_21:

I love my Monkey bars! I will tell you once you order them don't hold your breath! Mine took 4 months to get. I ordered them in mid February thinking I could put them on before riding weather was here. Finnally came at the end of may and did not give me the correct brake line parts with there supersize kit so I had to order a line from the stealer. If I were to do it over I would just get the bars from Yaffee and get my own lines etc... That being said I would not trade my monkey bars for anything! I get lots of compliments and love the ride!!!! Good Luck!   :bananarock:
