Replaced Clearview with Freedom Shield "Well made"
« on: October 11, 2010, 09:03:26 PM »

My clearview shield was nice but after removing and replacing the outer fairing for upgrades a small crack appeared at the center mounting bolt? probably a little too tight on my part  :nixweiss:

None the less I ordered and installed the "Freedom Shields" twice as thick and all the edges are polished. All around superior quality of construction.

I also went from the 8" to the 7" with no increase in buffeting, all in all much happier with this product.

Also received fast service and a "CVOHarley" member discount from John

I noticed that thickness comment once before but forgot to post my question, so thanks for reminding me.

If the shield is actually that much thicker than stock, what happens when it gets sandwiched between the inner and outer?  I would think it would leave a large gap between the two parts on either side of the shield and affect the overall fit of the inner to outer.  :nixweiss:

The stock shield and the Clearview shield actually left a gap the Freedom Shield fills it perfectly  :2vrolijk_21:

I agree.  Have both the 7" Freedom Shield in dark smoke and a 8" clear that I really don't need.  7" does the job for me at 6'3".  Very nice shields!

I don't intend to take this thread off topic, but I have a question.   I don't live far from Clearview (Bailey Conifer area), and have met with John a couple times over the years. I was always impressed with his shields, and customer service.    At the last show I went to here in Colorado, I thought I saw John working a booth with "Freedom Shields".    Is he no longer with Clearview?   I will tell you, if John is running Freedom, then you are guaranteed to have a 100% quality product, John is top-notch in my book.

Are these the same folks that make freedom wings (the vents for the side of the fairing)?

Bandit-Yes, John is the same fellow that we all dealt with from Clearview-now with Freedom.  Great Guy.

Mr Magoo-No, not the same company that makes the Freedom Wings.

FWIW-My review-Freedom Shields

Great quality product from a quality guy-John.

Have had both the light grey and dark grey in 10"..  The light grey does not look good on a citrus bike IMO so I sent back and got a dark one.  Dark one is too dark but would have been ok if I would have gotten a 8 or 9"..

The polished edge can be distracting as it refelected my coat back to me, but not a big deal.

Regarding the gap along the edge that GRC mentioned, the gap is larger as the shield is thicker but fits fine and does not effect appearance, again IMO..

In saying all of this, it killed me to order another Clearview, but their smoke color looks the best on my bike (actually a brownish/bronzeish color).

I am learning too much about windshields.
