New bike must haves
« on: October 19, 2010, 03:36:49 PM »

I have a new FLHXSE on order and want to know what Harley parts are must have items in relation to having the dealer install them so they are under the factory warranty. It is my understanding that if the dealer installs Harley parts it would be covered under the factory, and extended warranty period.  Any advise would be appreciated.

I use an HD branded Zumo and the HD fairing mount for it...
If you want GPS, I think the HD mount is the cleanest out there.

Other than that, on an '11 you have everything I added to my Spiced Rum, especially the upgraded stereo and lowers.

The rest of what i added -- fairing wind deflector, under seat heat deflectors, passenger floorboards, luggage rack & 4pt. detachable hardware, pull back bars, split-vision mirrors, full rear crash bars, passing lamps -- really aren't likely to need warranty repair.

Yes, heated grips is a great item, because it has the potential to fail because of the electric parts. Thanks

And for some reason the aftermarket heated grips don't fail nearly as often as the HD ones do.....

If your considering Chrome HD wheels that may be a good one to add now as well?

Most of the mods I am heppiest with either void the warranty or are non HD components  :nixweiss: Go figure?

The best functional mods for me were the Fueling 574 Cams and the Progressive monotubes. You may be able to get the dealer to install and cover the Monotubes?

What is the cost of the Monotubes ? Why did you feel it was necessary to go with them ?

The stock Showa forks are the same as those used on metric bikes very old technology but inexpensive to produce.

Take your bike out get up some speed and then brake hard it will dive about 3 inches. Even at low speed maneuvering in the driveway it will dive as you try to park and turn especially 2 up.

Also take your bike out get a rolling start say 5mph and accelerate rapidly it will rise about the same amount. This weakness is eliminated by the monotubes maintaining tight control in all maneuvers. Like sport suspension on a Corvette instead of the Cavalier / Impala"

They are around 389.00 Compared to Traxxion Dynamics tubes which are around 1,200.00 it is a very affordable performance / safety upgrade.

+1 on the Monotubes. Chip (SBB) endorsed the Monotubes and he's right. He uses both systems. Traxxion's are better but not enough to off set the cost. I got my Monotubes from http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/  $250.00

which dealer did you order your bike from? I see you're local to me. I have one on order as well from Big St Charles Harley.
