Relocated 7-Pin Docking Point On '11 FLHXSE2
« on: May 10, 2011, 01:59:47 AM »

I thought I should share this as it impressed me...As y'all may know the addition of intercom or CB on the '11 FLHXSE2 isn't like the previous year's model...where a new dash piece is retrofitted to include the dockin point for the 7-pin cord that attaches to the headset. On the '11 there is a double sided tape cord retainer that basically glues to your tank...and it looks like S*%# as well. One of the techs at the dealership got a little creative and hid it pretty successfully. Therefore I thought I'd share some pics with the forum. Left side heat shield...here they are...

Very clever; thanks for the pictures.  I've seen a powerlet (?) 12V outlet installed in the deflector, but never drew the parallel to mounting the rider headset connector there.  I'm going to edit the thread on installing the Boom Audio & Intercom Kit, p/n 77108-09 (now -09A) with a link to this thread to provide an alternative mounting location for the headset connector instead of the kit's clip and tape procedure.

Thanks, again.

Very slick, I am going to install the intercom in the next couple weeks and this is what I needed. I have had the kit for awhile but did not want it taped to the tank. THANKS!

Did you add those heat shields to your bike?  Mine didn't come with any.

Regular ole Harley accessory heat deflectors. Plastic but paintable. In the catalog for several years now.

This is one of those clever mods that is simply too good not to do.  I used the p/n 58022-07A kit for '01-'08 bikes, Mid Frame Air Deflectors.  Unfortunately, as clever and effective as the mod is, it was also the biggest PITA I've ever experienced over the past 6 years and many, many far more involved mods I've done; this kit simply was not designed for folks with above-average hand size.  It was made a bit more difficult because I retained the chrome mid-frame covers which adds a bit of thickness/distance between the deflectors and the various threaded inserts used to attach the deflectors to the bike which was partially dealt with by using longer bolts.  Perhaps the '09 and newer bikes with the newer frame will have an easier time with the installation.

That said, it was still very worthwhile and thanks, again, to Doc for posting it.

That is a sweet mod.
Sometimes I just shake my head and wonder what the f@#k Harley was thinking when I read some of thier mod. directions.  Its like they get tired of the "task" and say "thats good enough" ship it !!!!

Fireguy, I had no paint issues after removing the headset connector from the gas tank.  A slight amount of the double-sided tape/adhesive was left, but it was easily removed with 3M Auto adhesive remover used sparingly.

After installing the kit on the mid air deflector, any ideas for the rear connection? It looks a little "cheesy" the way they mounted it. Think we can come up with a better idea.
